Stand Frame for 155g

I am planning out my new build finally.

Just curious if this stand will be enough to support a 155g. The frame will be built out of 2x4s. There will be two 2x4s glued and screwed at the corners, then a 2x4 every 24" on the back, and a single 2x4 at the mid point in the front. Tank is 72" long.

Here is a sketchup drawing of the frame, excuse the messy drawing, still learning as I go. The nook where the tank is going is 92".

I think that should be enough to hold the weight, but I'd rather over build and sleep at night.

Just to be clear, the glued and screwed 2x4's will be at the corners. The nook is longer than the tank.

Gonna look something like this...

I figured the 2x4s would be plenty, but when it comes to stands, I always want to be extra sure.

Ok, that makes more sense. I would approve that. And the hood doesn't really need more than a facade. I would mount it straight to the wall and skip the frame on the tank. Just mount the lights to the top of the opening.

Thats a good idea.

2x4 is overkill but make it a box with supports at the corners.

What would you propose using instead of 2x4s?!

In the grand scheme of things 4x4's don't cost much more than 2x4s in cost, and are less likely to buckle. Is that a problem? I don't know. But between the water and tank, we're talking about nearly one ton.

A 155 can be held up with a 3/4 inch plywood box if joints are done right. I'm just saying you are fine with 2x4 as long as the outside corners bare the weight.

Thanks.

At this point...I am not entirely sure how the hood is going to look, or how I am going to mount my lights.
