Stand question

Hey guys. I bought a 180g tank and stand last week. From the amount of weight that the tank and it's contents will be when stocked though, I have doubts about the stand. I wanted to see what others who already have large tanks think. I just don't want to find out when adding the last few gallons of water that the stand wasn't strong enough. The middle braces are 2x4's, but the sides are 1x4 and 1x6.

I just built a stand for my 220, its the same as a 180 but taller. I used a 2x8 around the top, 4x4 notched out for the legs (or 2 2x4's) and 2x4's around the bottom. You might want to check out the stand building thread in the DIY forum.

I am also setting up a 180, so I have done a ton of research. It does seem that you need more support. It's kinda hard to tell from the picture but could you add some additional 2x4s for support in the corners and the middle?

Its most likely ok. Most DIY stands are way over built. If you look at most commercial stands by big tank retailers, they look rather under built. However, most are built to withstand 2x the load of the tank.

With that being said, 2x4's are very cheap so for the extra piece of mind, I say reinforce it and sleep better at night.
