Standard 1" bulkhead flow and pump question

Hi,

I have a 90g reef ready tank. The tank has a standard bulkhead which I believe is a 1" bulkhead. Not sure what the flow rate is for this using a crimp hose from tank to sump.

Currently the flow is equal to the return of a mag 7 pump. The mag 7 is making way too much vibration noise and I want to change it out for the best pump I can possible get that is super quiet and also will not hinder the return flow of the water.

Any suggestions on which route I can take on this?

If I get a pump that has higher flow will that mean that the intake flow will go up as well?

Not sure what to do, but looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks!

IMHO you dont need any more flow through your sump.

I would look into an Eheim 1260 or Sicce 3.0 both are nice a quiet.

+1....I would also put a ball valve after the return pump so you can fine tune. you should be good with about 300gph after headloss. A 1" drain can handle 600gph but it will be noisey

So I looked at both the pumps and saw the the Sicce had less power consumption. I then looked at some of the Eheim and found another Eheim the Eheim Compact+ Pump 5000.

Would that work and does anyone have experience with it?

I would like the return pump to have a small footprint if possible and be quiet/energy efficient. I know that is a lot to ask for but being quiet is the most important.

Thanks!

You talked about vibration... if its vibrating have you tried to put rubber gasket or something similar under them. With 1" returns I have had great luck with the rio 3100+ and sicce syncra 5's. They were just as noisy as my sicce syncra 5's... and by noisy I mean they vibrated agaist the acrylic sump. Not sure what kind of flow you would like for your tank but the syncra 5 has low power consumption and great gph at 5ft head pressure.

I do have foam and rubber in the entire bottom and sides of the sump but it does not help. The pump itself vibrates so much that it makes noise if that makes sense?

I had a Sicce 5 on my 180 and you wont need that big of a pump...a Sicce 3 would be sufficient on a 90 gal
