I have a 55g reef tank that will hopefully have some coral but I like star fish and I was wondering what would be a good star to get. I have 55g w/ deep sand bed and Live rock.
thanks

Serpent and brittle stars are the some of the best, they are easy to feed and care for, and several species are really attractive with bright colors and patterns. Most can be fed any dried or frozen commercial foods and almost all of them are great scavengers that are perfectly reef safe. I've never owned one but there are lg green stars that I've heard will capture and eat fish, but most will not harm a fish that is healthy.

I've seen a green brittle hunt (kill and eat) sleeping fish. You never know what your going to see at night with a red lens flashlight. :D

Brittle and serpent stars are pretty much the only options you're likely to be successful with.

Most of the sea stars we know the diets of are predators and not reef safe. The rest we don't really know the diets of, but they seem to need very large tanks to do well long-term. None of them are appropriate for a 55 gallon reef.
