star polyps out of control?

Help please
How do I control (remove) the polyps growing onto areas I do not want. In another few months they will envelop several other pieces in my tank.
They seem to be attached to the rock so intensely that it will be hard to get them off.
Any ideas on how to trim them back? I've seen tanks where they have taken over and I don't want this to happen to me.

Yes, not much around them. Any help will be great. I'm alittle afraid that if I try to take them off the polyps will spread to other areas and create a larger problem

trade the rock in at the lfs and get some new rock

Star polyps are ok. They can get out of control. A razor blade can clean them up nicely. They won't spread if your a little violent with the stuff your cutting off . . . I usually cut a nice clean line through the mat where I want it to end, then shred the stuff I'm taking off. I also try to syphon the debris out as I cut.

I wouldn't get any unless its the BRIGHT green stuff because it is a lot of work.

I agree with atzak. Cut any connecting "runners" from the main colony to the secondary colony with a sharp scirrors. Remove the rock with the secondary colony and trade at the LFS for something you need or want.

Take the rock out and scrape what you can off. Run scalding tap water over it then scrape it again. Run more scalding tap water over it. Then dry the rock off and paint it with lime paste. Let it dry a little then put it back in the tank...turn the power heads off and let it set up a bit.

The lime paste will set up hard...and you should have a bright white rock when your done.

Try not to heat the rock up too much when scalding it. Scald it on the surface as much as possible.
