Star Polyps

Newbie mistake here! Shortly after I setup my tank I aquired a small piece of star polyps. I am sure you all know where this is going. Well heck yeah it spread! It is covering one of my really large base rocks that I really can't take out. It's on the bottom with several rocks on top. I am sure I could remove it but that would mean a lot of reshifting of all hte rocks and disturbing other corals in the process. Is this a dominate coral that will crowd out other corals? Can it be gotten off the rock? Should I let nature take it's course? -Rachel

oh boy....i just took mine out of my small reef and put it on th sand in the 75.

you can either do like you said...take the rock out. kill it.

or maybe kill the spread colony by scraping it off with a blade or perhaps putting sand over it i really dont know...

maybe im thinking if you can turn the colony to face the sand it will suffocate it or somehting

You can control star polyps by using a kalk paste, just as if you were using it for aptasia.
Joes Juice should work on it also.

Unless you take the rock out and cook it, you are unlikely to ever get rid of it. It is a weed much like xenia. You can peel it back though and keep it in check, but it is a hassle (and you have to do it often).
