Starboard??? Travertine???

Just fyi, they sell starboard at home depot now

What Home Depot did u see it in? I just searched "œstarboard" on the Home Depot site and got nothing. Is there another name for it?

Any thoughts on the link I sent? Is that the same starboard used on bare bottom tanks?

It was west Boca or Delray, not sure which one. It was either by the wood or plexiglass. I just remember seeing it and thinking about future projects

I did black for my current build and white on previous builds. The white reflects light better until covered by coralline.

Which happens really fast.

I have black in mine and it was covered in Coraline in about 4 months.

That said, interested to hear what people have to say about travertine

I have small travertine tiles thay I picked up at HD and put them down in my tank and so far so good. I didn't silicone or anything like that do detritus settles between the cracks but very easy to siphon out. Also looks good to the eye (At least I think so).

That is very cool! Looks awesome!

I wonder how easy it would be to pick up a large (or a few large scrap pieces) at a stone yard. Or maybe even some keystone?

In your setup, I would maybe be a bit concerned about detritus getting underneath. I know you mentioned you can siphon out what's in the cracks, but what about the stuff that gets under the tiles?

If I ever feel like there's a lot under the tiles I can always lift the tiles that don't have rocks on them. And possibly baste the rest. I don't think it will be anywhere near as much as what builds up in a sandbed though so I haven't been too concerned about it. HD has bigger tiles but I didn't like the look too much, maybe if it looked more uniform in my tank I would have gone with the bigger size.

Very true. Nothing like what gets in a sanded. lol

Definitely also true about using smaller tiles in a smaller tank. Looks better for sure.

I asked the questions about larger pieces because for my upcoming tank which is 8ft long x 2ft deep, what I was thinking is if I could cut pieces to size. In other words instead of using a bunch of small tiles, maybe using four large plates (each 2ft x 2ft).
