Starphire??

Is starphire worth the extra cost? I can order my tank for $235 or with starphire for $385? What would you do? It will be a 60 cube 24"x24"x24" rimless. Thanks Chris

for $50 more, i'd give it a shot.....and it seems like the people who have them love it too (but that might be to justify the purchase)

What thickness glass are they using?

I definitely can notice it on the 270 gallon as compared to my old 90. I think the 270 is 1/2" glass and the 90" was 1/4" (not 100% sure about the 90). In any case, I did notice a very green tinge to the glass when the 270 was not set-up. Now that it is set-up, it is a lot less obvious and until I see the same tank with starphire it won't really bother me.

I think it is probably like VHS compared to a DVD... until you get used to looking at a better resolution, you don't really notice how crappy the other is.

In short...If they are using 1/2" glass, I'd consider it. On a thinner pane I don't think you'd notice it... particularly if you aren't used to seeing acrylic or starphire.

In my opinion, YES!

Here is my 45g before I set it up. I think this picture illustrates Starphire pretty darn well.

On the right side is the starphire. On the left is the back of the tank, which is regular glass.

I'd say go for it... $150 really isn't that bad in reefing and I think its worth it. :)

ooops...im a dummy..why was i thinkin $50?....i wouldnt do it...im cheap and rather save my money on nice equipment

I will have you know, Brian, that I took that BEFORE I got the D50.

On top of that, the picture actually serves a good purpose in this thread. So go scrub the beer smell out of your kitchen floors. :p

Nah... I was just referring to the fact that there is a camera $*%&#^ (not your lovely wife) in the background of the starphire side of your tank.

But I think I will go scrub my floor... with my tongue of course.
