STARS WebSite

stanger50lx92, glad to see you found us, i hope you won't feel alone around here. Please join everyone for meetings and post on the forum as much or as little as you like.

hEcToR1520, glad to see you made it here, I am also glad to know that you are willing to be an active member, thanks for taking part. Any and all suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

For any of you that have not yet been to the web site pleasse go there and have a look around. It is still a work in progress. Any suggestions on the site are also welcomed.

The site is all due to Daniel taking control of it and making it happen, along with suggestions from members. Thank you Daniel for all the great work.

STARS WebSite

Thank you strayvoltage and to jay508. I can already tell that there is a diffrent "feel" to this forum and club in general. I live on the west side of el paso and if anyone needs my help just let me know. I'm still new to the hobby, my first tank came down with ich and lost all my fish. It was a 46g. Now I have a 39g cadlights pro for a little over a month now and so far so good! My tank has a small clown, a fire fish that we call MIA cause he is never around, a cleaner shrimp and a blood red shrimp. Some snails and hermits and a star fish that has gotten himself stuck inside the bottom of the overflow box (still don't know how to get him out). As for coral I have a purple tube anemone, a candy cane (thanks Timgentry) a hamer and some zoas (tubs blue, nuke greens, and some purple hornets) from benjaba.

You have some nice corals/ inverts. I really like the tube anemone and am thinking about getting one for my display tank. Although I will not be there I hope you can make it to the meeting on saturday.

Since we have been discussing updating the website I would like to hear some suggestions on what everyone would like to see on the website. The links tabs, info, donation area, etc....

Some suggestions for tabs:

Home
Calander
Sponsors
News
"Rooster"
Tank Shots

These are just a few, so please chime in and lets figure out what we would like the site to look like, it will be a club effort.

Good ideas guys. I think the minutes being posted would be a good thing.

I agree with this. Somewhere in one of the tabs maybe under "news" or "events" we can post meeting minutes and any other pertinent club info like things coming up for vote and whatnot.

we could post meeting miuntes under meeting minutes. I see the minutes for other clubs on their websites under minutes. I like the K.I.S.S. method whenever possible. Minutes are minutes and need not be hidden in news or events. Like you all know JMO.

We need to use the website but we also need to keep in mind one thing. The one thing that I was told when I was allowed to set up this new club forum was, we like you to have your own website but don't want you to use RC to direct people there, but rather just the opposite. Use your website to direct people to RC.

So we can give good info about the club and use the website for whatever we want to use it for, but I think it still needs to serve as a tool to bring new people here to our new club forum at RC.

+1!

How about a tank of the month on the website? The winner can get a gift cert to one of the LFS's or restaurant? Or a simple bat in the back and an atta girl/boy.
DIY info--how to lighting, building stands, resealing aquariums, posting JMaits thread here , etc.
Information for newbies entering this hobby --how to get started, what to expect, and the do's and don'ts. I know that I would have BENEFITED GREATLY if this info was available when I first started.

Thanks!

Daniel- please chime in if you feel like I am stepping on your toes, that is not my intention. I am just trying to move things forward. I am very greatful that you have started the website project and feel that the club is in debt to you for it. If you would like to hang on to the site and continue the design process I am ok with that, really.

I am trying to embrace this website project because something has presented itself right here and right now. In my eyes it is a good thing, and no its not going to cost the club anything. I think it is just another step in moving the club forward. If the majority feels that Audrey needs to head this project we can go that route to but I am volunteering myself, wasn't the joke that VP has no duties anyway?

I think everyone will like the finished product here. so if we can all come to agreement I would like to start this right away before the opportunity vanishes.

Hey Jay, I think Daniel aleady said that he was okay with this but it was on the other thread. I am not saying Audrey should head this project but she does need to be part of it because she keeps the records, they are part of what should be on the site.
Jay I for one don't have a problem with it after Daniel said go for it.

deehz, there are links on the site to direct new members here to RC to the new to the hobby forum as well as a direct link to the STARS forum and how to get set up with a user name for RC. I think we have a great tool here in RC and we should use it to our advantage by directing people here.

Jay after the site is all set up and whatever changes made to it, who will take care of updating it with new info when needed? Who will be able to do that and what program or programs will they need to take care of doing it? Just some things that ned to be thought about before we just go and change everything and not have a person able to keep the page up after it is set up.

hey guys, im here in el paso, looking for local clubs and what not. what i really want to see is you guys starting a facebook page, or actually im thinking about doing it. let me know what you think. that way we can know and have a cool place to upload photos and talk to each other easier than looking thru the forums. i think. let me know. if not ill do a general facebook page of reef keepers and saltwater keepers in El Paso and let you all know about it. ????>>>>>!!!!!

I usually post pics on my facebook page of the meeting and such if you want to look for mine. :)

Steffen Sparks
Glad you are on board!!!!

pnavarro170, welcome to STARS and RC

We can upload photos here and there is no searching thru the forums. This is the reason STARS has it's own club forum, just like the rest of the clubs that are on RC. Not everyone has face book! I think if you want to post photos they would be seen by far more people in the hobby here on RC than on Face book. This of course is JMO.

sounds good guys, well let me start a page on facebook for anyone who has saltwater or reef tanks in el paso and see how it goes from there, im sure more people are on here but you never know, plus it would be cool to have the common guy on facebook not just some of the more knowledgable people like you guys. ill let you know. it just sucked that i have a bunch of friends on facebook and only a couple had tanks haha.
