start a phytoplankton

I second Joe's recommendation of Florida Aquafarms. If you look under the "Live Cultures" category, you can get start up cultures on agar disks of specific species. I'd recommend the Nanochloropsis as a good first phyto culture venture, it's one of the easiest to culture and very useful as well. While cultures can be started from DT's, it's a mixed product which will prevent you knowing which species has dominated your cultures. It's always best to work with known species in single species cultures ;)
