start a phytoplankton

Hi i live in ohio and dont want to buy much (none) but i want to start a phytoplankton cultur i have 4 2l bottles a air pump but what algae should i use to start it will http://www.petsolutions.com/default.aspx?ItemId=42021316&EID=NX42021316&SID=NXTG work?

well I would go with:

You can put SW in the bowl let it sit 24 hrs then run an airpump to it with some light and within 7 days you should have a phytoplankton culture!
and yes you can feed it to your tank very slow!

I started mine with DT's phytoplankton and used the recipe from www.melevsreef.com .

I second Joe's recommendation of Florida Aquafarms. If you look under the "Live Cultures" category, you can get start up cultures on agar disks of specific species. I'd recommend the Nanochloropsis as a good first phyto culture venture, it's one of the easiest to culture and very useful as well. While cultures can be started from DT's, it's a mixed product which will prevent you knowing which species has dominated your cultures. It's always best to work with known species in single species cultures
