start using acropower?

so I am beginning to stock my 180 with a lot of SPS, with the majority being acros since the levels in my tank have been stable for 3 weeks now I feel comfortable to handle SPS now but not the expensive acros yet, will wait awhile for those.

anyways, I am thinking of starting to dose some acropower to hopefully bring out the colors and help the growth of the sps. I do not want to do any extra dosing like zeo, forest systems, etc. I just want to keep a simple setup with brs 2 part for kalk and calc, till I cant keep up and need a calc reactor.

I am wondering how much I should start off with dosing acropower. Everyday? threee times a week? once a week? I am wondering what the majority start at and how many ML per 200 gallons of water.

Thanks a lot guys and I would appreciate your opinion on this.

How many acros do you currently have?
How do they look?
How's polyp extension?
And!!
What're you're parameters?

Right now I have 15 acros, I am getting around another 10 in the next week. The ones I have now look great, polyp extension could be better which is why I was thinking about adding acropowder. I will have around around 40 SPS after the next week, with majority being acros with some montis and birdsnest.

parameters are: alk 7.5-8, calc 420-450, phosphates read 0 I know I have some and same with nitrates. salinity is 1.026, temp is 80.

tank is 180 gallon with 40 gallon sump with 8X80 watt t5. I am about to get new bulbs and plan to move all the corals to the sand for a week or two. I am still trying to figure out what bulb combo

Not related to acro power but if you're changing your bulbs, you could just change 2 at a time once per week and you shouldn't need to move anything.

Hows nocturnal axial corallite extension? Daytime PE is a decent indicator of health, but a sure way to tell if they are stable/ happy is by looking for that a few hours after lights out.

Also you wont get to a point that you can't keep up with the tanks mineral (alk, cal, mag) demand with two part/ balling, you just have to adjust accordingly and may (hopefully) get to a point where you are using so much that the salinity creep becomes too much of a pain to deal with as well as $$$ in two part if you aren't making your own.

If you are going for all SPS in a 180, save yourself the trouble and just get a calcium reactor, plus it adds many more elements than alk/cal/mag and is more constant as well as much cheaper in the long run.

I have to look at it at night, i havent in awhile.

i plan to add a calcium reactor once i get some good colonies. right now i am adding just all frags so i can watch it grow out so it will be awhile till they are consuming a lot of alk/calc.

so I used a bottle of acropower and im not sure if it did anything but my phosphates and nitrates still read 0. granted I did only feed 10 ml on acropower per day when the lights were off for a 180 gallon tank so I probably wasn't feeding enough.

the PE on my corals are really insane during night and are also very good during the day. I was wondering if yall think I should consider using acropower or if I should go to something that is usually more spot feeding such as reef roids or reef chili.

I currently now have 50 frags, most of them are over 1 inch and some are multi branches and around 3 inches.

Params:

1.025 salinity
8 alk
420 calc
0 phosphates
0 nitrates
80 temp
haven't tested mag in at least 1 month

You have to be very careful to not overdose that stuff. I did and it caused an algae outbreak. What are you using in terms of test kits for nitrates and phosphates? If you don't have one already, I think it is worth it to get an ultra low range phosphate test kit to see if you do have any detectable levels of phosphate. You may not be at zero and adding a coral food such as Acropower might not make much of a difference if your SPS are already taking in nutrients and not starving. Do you have a lot of fish? Fish poop is a good source of food for SPS.

thanks for the reply.

I have a hanna checker for phosphate and salifert test kit for nitrates. I have a decent amount of fish I have 10 fish with 4 of them being tangs. however I have no signs of algae ever and havent since i started feeding the acropower but I was wondering if I should continue it and possibly up the doses till around 15ml a day since 5-10ml was fine.

I would just be careful with overdosing. How are your colors at this point?

Here is the respose I got from the supplier after asking the same question for my 600 system;

Dear Richard,

The dose range on the bottle indicates a weekly dose minimum (ie you add it all at once) that can be added DAILY (maximum dose).

So, if you are dosing daily, for a 500 gallon tank that's 100 ml per week (14 ml per day) min or up to 100 ml per day max.

Despite the direction to "shake well," it is not necessary to shake or stir the product.

Tech support

I am currently dosing 30ml per day for a 600 system.Everyone looks happy. I will probably take it up to 50ml per day in a few months.

they are good but I know they could be better seeing pictures online and some kind of look dull looking.

6 foot tank, 180 gallons with two grye 150 on each side and 2 rw8s on the back walls so plenty of flow and the lighting I have is a 8x80 t5 with 4 coral plus and 4 blue plus

how long have you been dosing that? How many SPS and around what sizes are they? I am dosing pretty much the exact same as you as that would be around 10ml a day for me. I am thinking or raising it to 15-20ml for 2 weeks and see what happens if phosphates get high then ill just back off. I figured it cant hurt much right?

The fact that you don't have to shake it makes it a lot easier, I didn't know that. guess I can hook that up to my dosing pump then, makes it even easier :)

I have been dosing for 3 months.I have about 40 pieces..about the size of a fist.(check my thread out)I never heard that Phosphate is a concern when dosing amino acids....maybe algae.
It appears that it would be very hard to over dose this product.

I dose about 10mml every other day in my 150. I do it about 10min before I feed the tank in the afternoon. That seemed to be the sweet spot for me.

I thought you were suppose to dose it during the night when the pe is the most extreme?

Anyone else have opinions?

I don't remember if that was on the instructions or not? I do not recall ever hearing that. Doesn't mean your wrong im just not sure but I have never had an issue. When I dose prior to feeding it seems to wake my corals up extending the feeders so when I dump food in they are ready to catch it.

no its not on the instructions, I thought I saw it somewhere on here but maybe I was wrong. your point does make sense. I think I will dose half during the day and half at night.
