Started 224g tank back up Fresh

Sorry about the loss of fish. I can't wait till I own a tank large enough to have an adult Orange Shoulder, beautiful fish.

I got It from someone locally but It came from Walt Smith I believe... Very awesome looking rock.. A bit more Expensive than most though..

James

Thanks! it does look like nice rock. I'll have to see who sells it on line. We don't have much of a LFS in my area.

I think Reefermadness.us and Fragfarmer.com both sell it online... I think Its roughly 500 per 88lb box shipped If I remember correctly...

James

hey james that white algae on the rocks, how did you get rid of that? i am having a problem with that too, they look like peach fuzz, clear and white fuzzy algae all over my rock.

I have been using Urchins.. About 25 of them to be Exact LOL... Those and not really feeding the fish all that much.. Maybe once per week... Other than that Its not really going away Fast... I have a mix from Fire Urchins, Long Spines and Pincushions as well as Lettuce Nudis, Snails and hermits.. I found that Mexican Zebra snails work good but they arent too cheap... I also put a piece of LR in my sump with no light and that seemed to kill it as well but I dont know how long that took... Its been down there for about a month or so... I think The Urchins did most of the work... Its definetly a PITA to remove... using a toothbrush, Stainless Steel brush and bristle brush didnt seem to do very much to it at all... I don't/won't use any sort of Po4 remover as that stuff has killed more of my corals than I can count...

James

well my tank has like a very low rating on po4 off the colormeter. but yeah im trying to remove that algae, does mexican turbosnails work?

They seemed to work very well... I had about 10 of them in there and They did wonders.. Mysteriously all of them Died Except 1... Now I have 1 crawling around the tank... I was hoping to get more but I havent... I have soo many Urchins in the tank its crazy... I think Its time to trade some urchins into the LFS and get some more of them Snails... Urchins can only go in so many places..

Here is a Few more shots..

Can you please elaborate on this statement?
I just started using an iron oxide one..bad idea?
Your tank is awesome.;)

I have Used Phosban/Rowa and they Both Seem to cause Tip Recession in my tank as well as a few others that I have known... It always seems like its your Favorite corals that are Affected first... Even When Running small amounts I have still had issues... I rinse well and still nothing... I have since given up on it and would use or recommend it to anyone...

There is a simular post about Tip Recession that I have gotten involved in..

My thoughts are there is something leaching out of the GFO and in small quantities its not an issue but will eventually build up and start to cause Issues... While this hasnt been the same for everyone IMO I think its going to happen sooner or later... There is little to be known about the GFOs... Until something is figured out I wont use it again..

I have been thinking more on this subject.I took mine out of my tank w/ sps, but left it in my other tank that is just lps and softies.

I wonder if the effect on the acros could have come from the GFO removing 'ALL' of the phosphates.I have been told that acros need a small amount.Or..could it be that the phosphates leech back out of the GFO all at once and cause the problem?

Here are a Few more pieces I got today for the tank... They have only been in the tank about 20 mins when I took these pics..
