Starting 29Gal

Well im starting a 29gallon setup but would like to get some opinions on fish before i go out and get some

What fish would you have in yours?

assuming you've cycled and everything...what type you want? All little tiny fish? Stuff like gobies and a few types of blennies would be fine, or you could do the normal clowns. In my 29 i got 2 O. Clowns, and 1 Coral beauty. Contemplating adding another firefish or possibly a small little gobie. Just something that stays out of the way of others is all i want really.

I currently only have a maroon clown, but he is beautiful. The next thing I will add will be an anemone, but I am also thinking of adding another maroon. Not sure if that would work though, since he has been living in the tank for more than 6 months and may not take kindly to a newcomer.

I have also considered keeping some type of dwarf angel, but I don't think I want to risk it with corals.

I will probably try a blenny of some kind in the future, I like the perching type of fish and they seem to stay out of the way of the clownfish.

Just be aware that clowns can be agressive, especially maroons!

I had a nice lawnmower blenny, but he must have had a stomach bug, because he ate and ate and ate and just stayed so very skinny. Water params were right on, and he just died one day.

i have two clarkiis and two whatchman gobies... and thats all im putting in.. but as far as corals lots of zoas mushrooms toad stool torch hammer

i would not add a maroon to just a 30. They get over 5-6 inches. And they're mean. So if you do put one in there, you really shouldn't put anything w/it. Much less put 2 in there...\

and percs and ocelaris arent aggressive, just the others for the most part.

i agree with sir_dudeguy, small fish are the way to go, here is what i have in my 30 gal long:

2 ocellaris clownfish
1 royal gramma
1 flame angelfish
1 court jester goby

i decided to get them all juvenile to reduce aggression problems as well, and thus far not a single issue.

In my 29 I have:

2 clarki clowns
1 Pigmy angel
1 Clown tang for now (cleaning up some calurpa that made its way into my display)
1 Cleaner Shrimp

My 29 Gallon:

1 O. Clown
1 Six Line Wrasse
1 Bicolor Blenny
1 Cleaner Shrimp

I might add another shrimp but no more fish.

I'm also a beginner (So I don't really know what I'm talking about), but here are some of the fish that I've been debating over eventually getting for my 30 gallon:

Ocellaris Clownfish - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=137
Banded Longfin Basslet - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1693
Two Spot Goby - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1693
Court Jester Goby - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=164
Yellowtail Damsel - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=134
Yellowtail Cardinal Fish - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2083
Blue Reef Chromis - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=115

Of these fish, I think I'm going to get the Oscellaris Clownfish, a Goby (I'm not sure if I should get the Two Spot or the Court Jester), and a school of three Yellowtail Cardinal Fish or a school of three Blue Reef Chromis.

In addition to this, I also want to have a bunch on invertabrates:

1x Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=696
1x Peppermint Shrimp - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=701
1x Blue Tuxedo Pincussion Urchin - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=595
1x Marble Sea Star - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2133
a bunch of hermit crabs
a bunch of various snails

Once again I'm a beginner and I don't really know if these fish are 100% compatible with eachother, but according to the website I provided links to, these should be able to co-exhist.

This is a little off topic but, goulashriot...how is ur flame angle fish with ur corals...i was told that they nip at them and it woulnt be best to put one in with them. On the box of the bio cube, it has a flame angle with a buntch of corls...

I have a flame in my nanocube w/o problems. They mainly nip at clams and open brains (which I don't keep). I do have a few fleshy blasto welsi but he leaves them alone as well.
If you get it and he starts nipping you have to decide if you want the coral he is nipping or the fish. I have told people that if he nips any coral the coral will be the one to leave the tank.

If you get one make sure to add him last and be ready to feed him what he needs (Lots of algae based foods like formula 2, pygmi angel food, etc...).

Yes, I know the maroons get large and are more agressive. I probably should not have recommended it. I bought him when I was looking to get my first fish (and wanted a clown) and saw him in Petco. Their tanks were in really bad shape, dead fish and unhealthy ones everywhere. My maroon was swiming all over the tank, looked perfectly healthy and came up to the glass and stared at me. I rescued him out of that store for a mere $14.99.
