Starting a new 90 Progress will be updated

Thanks you may have convinced me. I also left a thread on the Tunze forum. Hopefully Marine Depot will let me exchange. I also bought the $80 container so I have two items I will need to return. This will be about the same as a 9015. The site says they have a 25% restocking fee. The order was placed yesterday so I know it has not even been processed yet.

The Eheim will still be kept as I want a better external pump and I have heard the Mag 9.5s have problems running externally. Plus I need a backup main return pump anyway.

How often to you empty your cup?

I empty my cup every other day, give it a quick scrub with the brush that is provided and place the cup back in action. If Marine Depot is a good vendor than it shouldn't be a problem its not even shipped yet let alone packed. I'd call them 1 st thing in the AM. You won't be disappointed!!! The 9015 is the same as the 9010 the only difference is the cup size. I was thinking of getting the 9015, Roger from Tunze talked me into the 9010.

I just looked at your diagram in the Tunze forum. Ideally you want the skimmer before the refugium, before the biological filtration takes place. The best bet in my opinion is to get a new sump. I know that is not what you want to hear, but in your situation you are looking for SPS so a fuge in my opinion is important. There is a custom sump builder in Texas that I know of if you want to go that route.

You're right I didn't want to hear I should replace the sump. :(

Actually I have considered it but was hoping I wouldn't have to.

If you could PM me the info of the guy in Texas I'll take this into consideration.

I checked out the cost of adding the larger cup to the 9010 and it would be the same price as just ordering the 9015. So I will probably just get the 9015. I travel for business and some trips are four days long.

Hey Dano,
I went with the 9010 in my 90 gallon. I like it a lot. I have in in the sump and it does not need an additional pump. The footprint is very small.

I am looking into the possibility of drilling a hole in the collection cup so I can run a line to an empty milk carton or something. I am worried about cracking it though, and don't have a reason to attempt this yet.

I originally was running pretty wet, so I changed it daily, but now I have turned it down and will need to change it about every 3 days. I could turn it down more and get a thicker skimmate, but I am happy enough right now.

When I first got it, the venturi hose was unplugged, so I got nothing but microbubbles. Called them up and they told me what the issue was immediately.

You can buy from Tunze some sort of apparatus that allows you to remove the skimmate cup and drain into a separate container. It comes standard on their 9020 in case you're curious what they look like.

Also, I've read that the tank raised clown fishes are much less likely to host in an anenome. Not sure if that's an issue for you or not though.

I called Marine Depot and they were able to cancel the order for the AquaC with no restocking fees and no issues. I have always had great service from these guys.

OK now I need to figure out the best solution for the skimmer.

This will not be an issue as I do not plan to have anemone in the tank.

that starfish pic you posted awhile back looks like an asterina.

nice system!

With 6 legs?

I have not seen it for awhile so I don't know if it survived.

I posted this question on another forum as well.

Of all the hermits I received the one below does not appear to be a Scarlet hermit. It looks like a Laurent's Hermit.

Can anyone confirm and let me know if they can be harmful to my tank.

That's one of the pages I used but the picture is very poor to use as a comparison.

The description is close but not exact.

"Orange-yellow antennae. Claw-limbs brown, other legs pink with white junctions and black tips."

The claw limbs are not brown plus I think it's too big.

I also looked here and had no luck.

Sorry to tell you this my friend, but that looks like Dardanus venosus (Stareye/Starry-eye(d) Hermit Crab). I believe these are fish killers.

Not yet. Since I have to replace the fuge I am going to wait until I have it ready to set up first. The fuge is due to arrive Monday.

Because of some job priorities I won't have a chance for at least a week maybe two.
