what fuge did you wind up getting? Added cleanup crew to my tank today.

It's the one Vader88 purchased. It's 36L X 16W X 18H and the baffles come uninstalled so you can make the compartments any size you want. He said it's working out pretty good so I thought I would give it a try. It's actually the same design as I have but twice the volume and adjustable.

Below is the picture of Vader88s,

there is a strawberry hermit on there that kinda looks like the hermit you got

I am pretty sure it's a Starry Eyed Hermit (Dardanus venosus). Below is a pic from a site and the bottom one is mine.

Actually it's being sold on Ebay for $160. It has to be assembled to what extent I am not yet sure. It does require acrylic cement.

When I get it I will post pics of the assembly.

Each and every piece needs to be assembled. Just set a couple hours aside one night and consider it a learning experience. It's all pre-cut to size and you bond it together and make the chambers whatever size you need.

Day 46

Wow already a month and a half.

I thought I would post the latest tank picture. Also I have some pictures of what I think are sponges. I seem to be getting a lot of sponge growth. I have at least 5 or 6 of the ones below. If anyone can confirm if these are sponges I would appreciate it.

The algae problem is getting better. I also did some redecorating. I added another piece (about 7 lbs) and moved a few pieces around.

I upgraded the fans in the canopy and was able to reduce the temperature by about 1.5 degrees. The tank now stays below 80 and I can regulate it between 79.7 and 80.0.

I ordered the Tunze 9010 and and Eheim 1260 to go with the new fuge. The 9010 has a two week backorder so the timing will be fine with the completion on the fuge build.

The Eheim will replace the Mag 9.5. I was told they run cooler than the Mag 9.5 which hopefully will bring down the temp one more degree. With head pressure I am hoping to get 450 to 500 gph which is a good flow through the fuge. With the two Koralia #4s total flow in the tank should be close to 3000 gph or around 33 times the tank capacity.

I was hoping you would respond Thanks. :)

I had a feeling this was the case and have been studying up on acrylic work. I am surprised the description says no tools required. I would think in addition to the clamps you recommended you would also need something to square up the sides. Easy enough to pick up at Lowe's.

I am also going to pick up some additional applicators.

I thought I would post some pictures together to see the changes over the last 4 weeks.

It's funny how the algae only grew on the first pieces I started with and not on the smaller additional pieces.

I would recommend picking up the Weldon #16. It's thicker and fill the seems better. Not as pretty as the liquid, but I feel better with it. You can pick it up for 7-10 bucks at the LFS or acrylics shop. I let the clamps do the squaring up for me, although I did check with a square afterwards. You can still do it with the included glue, but like you said...get some more applications and be careful. They are sharp, I know and have bonding cement in my blood stream. I'll be dead before my tank is done :D

Does it say what type of glue they include? I was thinking of Weld-On #4 which seems to be the recommended cement. I will pick up #16 also.

It maybe they just don't want liability. Any power driven system can also fail. It has been working fine so far. I will check it periodically to make sure it keeps working.

There are several articles about this. A broken float switch == flooded aquarium == everything dies when salinity drops. Always top off from a small container (5 gals), or using a solenoid AND timer (like what can be done with the Aquatronica controller). If level is low, turn on top off pump, but if level does not return to OK in XX seconds, block program from running again until reviewed.

Bad idea to top off directly from RO/DI w/ float. Potential disaster.

I'm not sure which number they include, but it is water like consistency. I liked #16 because it is more like a model glue.

Thanks for your input but if you read the threads you will see this is not topped off from the RO/DI but from a container that I usually fill with 5 to 7 gals. Also in the threads you will see I purchased the Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155 which will also be hooked up to the AC jr and timed for additional safety.

Day 57

It's been awhile since my last post. I was away on business last week and came home to find tons of sponge throughout the tank. It was a whitish light brown sponge. If it was decent looking I would have kept it.

Anyway I am waiting to install a new fuge a skimmer which is still at least two weeks away. The fuge I purchased a few weeks ago didn't work out. I won't get into details but I am now having one made from a guy in the Dallas area.

The skimmer I want to go with is the Tunze 9010 but due to production issues they have been backordered for over a month and are still over two weeks away from being back in stock.

Below is the latest pic of the tank. Algae is now only in a few areas.

162691Day_56.jpg

NH4 - 0.0
NO2 - 0.0
NO3 - 0.0
PH - 7.97
Ca - 460
PO4 - 0.0
dKH - 9.8
SG - 1.025
Temp - 79.9

Are the tunzes back ordered everywhere? Probably so from what you posted. I was thinking about ordering one for my 120, but I may be waiting a few more weeks before ordering anyway.

Dano

Not wanting to rub salt on an open wound, but I know many people that have had a hard time gluing acrylic panels together and getting everything to look right.

Go with the custom order. You will be happier !
