yeah your Venturi nozzle wasnt hooked up properly but now it looks like you are good to go. In a few days you'll see some real nasty stuff!!!!

It's already doing better than the other skimmer I had. I would bet I did not produce even one cup of skimmate in the three months it was running.

If thats the case watch your hair algae problem disappear

I actually don't have any more hair algae. It was pretty much gone a month ago and what little was left was eaten by the Foxface. The new skimmer will most definitely help keep any more nuisance algae away. I am putting seaweed in the tank daily because he has nothing else to eat (the CUC also eats the seaweed). He also gets flake food three times daily.

BTW the sock filter has already cleared up the water. I have already changed the sock which had a lot of crap in it. It cleaned out well in the washer with some bleach and a triple rinse cycle.

Do you have anything holding or supporting your drain line? I am not happy with my drain line set up and was thinking of removing the sump bulkhead and running the piping through the hole similar to what you have done. I may have to move the sump over an inch or two.

no I have a short piece of 1 1/2" flex tubing coming from my bulkhead, to a hose barb to 1 1/2" PVC pipe to a union to another piece of 1 1/2" PVC (thats the piece that runs into my sump. I have nothing holding it because its almost a staight shot down into my sump

hope that's confusing enough for ya:)

Not confusing at all it's what I thought you had by looking at your pics. It's the same or similar to what I may change to. I have the drain on the right and return on the left which may help a little. I just need to move the sump over a few inches. I'll have to drain some of the water of course.

My platform for the skimmer is not as level as I thought and the skimmer wobbles a little. I think this will break down some of the bubbles. Your platform is similar (I used the acrylic instead of eggcrate) do you have this problem?

my platform doesnt really wobble, maybe ever so slightly. I cut my PVC legs on a chop saw. I used a wood stop so that the legs would be exactly the same every time. It came out so nice that a local friend of mine asked me to build one for his Tunze

I seem to have one leg slightly longer. I measured and used a PVC cutter. I'll take a sander to the one leg to see if I can get it even.

This setup is stellar!! Is that the oceanic ulitmate tank? If so then I just purchased the same exact one on ebay. If you don't mind how much does that canopy and stand run?

Day 98

After the initial foam on Sunday the skimmer quieted down until last night. The break in period was real short.

What can I say I'm happy. :D

In about a day or two I will reduce the air intake to get the skimmate thicker.

Nice thread. I noticed on page 6 your little star fish. I did not see if anyone else mentioned it but that is a predatory starfish that is capable of destroying large colonies of Acropora corals. It is not reef safe.

Yes Thanks. It's an asterina and although one person mentioned the name in a later post no reference to being a predator was mentioned.

I learned more about this type of starfish later on. I have not seen it since that day so it may not still be alive. The next time I see it it's coming out.

Day 109

Just a quick post.

I added my first two corals yesterday. A Torch and a Monti Cap.

I also found some Aiptasia :furious: which I have treated with a Kalk paste. We'll see if they return.

Thanks for the shots of how you used plexi and pvc for your skimmer to stand on. I did the same exact thing yesterday for my skimmer to stand on. I kept cutting up bowls and the bottoms of plastic cups but could not get the skimmer to stand straight and not wobble. It's perfect now.
