Starting a rotifer tank.

I got out my one 7.5 gallon tank, I stuck a air stone in it.
I used 7.5 gallons of water out of my display tank.
What else do i put in the culture tank.

I also have a 10 gallon grow-out tank with 5 lbs of LR (plan to purchase another piece). The bottom of the tank is line with some of my Live Sand from y display tank and some small gravel (yeah it looks as bad as it sounds.
I am wondering if i should remove this stuff....

I have a sponge filter in the back left corner:

with

at the top to draw in.

Seems to quite effective.

I have a submersed pump filter (designed for fresh water on the opposite corner of the tank to stimulate circulation). I think it called "Stingray". I bought it from thatfishplace.com. From their site, it doesn't appear to be for sale anymore. It basically is a power head with filter media.

What else do i need to place in each tank?

PS: I am about to go purchase Clownfish (the book)

My 5g rotifer culture tank only has an air stone (actually just open ended rigid tubing)....nothing else. I started the rotifers with 20,000 eggs from AquaticEco and DT's phyto from That Fish Place.

Joyce's book will detail everything you need.

Well, i cannot buy the clownfish book at TFPTPP... that sucks.

HoopsGuru, you live in Harrisburg? I live in Lancaster near TFPTPP, maybe we could meet up, exchange notes, share ideas, shoot some ****, drink beer, do stuff ill regret the following day, etc, etc.

Yeah, I never understood why they carry almost every book except for that one....I think I picked mine up at Borders in Colonial Park.

I'll be at TFP on Saturday at 6:30 delivering anemones to some folks.

amazon have it

I dont usually use a pump for rots. just an open airline and some rigid tubing to keep it bubbling. I would think that a pump would tear them up since they are fairly delicate compared to other cultures. even an airstream set too high can tear them up. for a 7.5 i would just through a few air lines in there

I ordered the book off amazon, got it used. What is the first biological matter i should have in the culture tank, Zoo, Phyto, Rotifer. What feeds off of what. Thanks!

I'd like to order whatever the hell that is before the book gets here. That way i am not wasting any time.

For the rots, you can use old tank water. But you need to sterilize it with a small dose of bleach to eliminate possible contamination with competing organisms. Of course use some dechlorinater afterwards ;) At the top of the breeding forum is a sticky thread on culturing microfoods, it's worth the read :)
