starting a seahorse tank

So I inherited a tank from a friend. It's a jbj nanocube 28 hqi (older model). Along with it he gave me a tunze 9002 and 1/20 hp jbj nano arctica chiller. Been ordering a few things here and there. Got 20 lbs pukani rock from brs (which turned out to be too much) & ordered a rkl. Any equipment I might be forgetting? Also picked up some macros from reefcleaners. I do understand cycling, but I haven't done it in a long time. What's the average amount of time it should take. Also looking for suggestions on which seahorses to purchase. Are there any specific pipefish that would be compatible with your suggestions? I'm waiting at least a month before I add anything. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

Check the links at the bottom of "My Thoughts on Seahorse Keeping",
They will give you more information for your new hobby.
For some of the links you will have to join the "org" to read them but that is a good move anyway.
That size tank would be suitable for a pair of erectus or reidi which make good starter horses, but is not large enough for additions other than the one pair.
Pipefish are NOT a good mix to place in with seahorses, especially for a beginner.
For best changes of success, buy only TRUE captive bred seahorses.
Ask who the breeder is before buying and if they won't/can't tell you then stay away from them.
Once you know the breeder and the species, you can go to the forums to find out if it will be a good buy.
Buying cheap equals wasted money most times.

Thanks for the advice. I have previously housed a couple of reidi until they bred. I was completely unprepared after that and lost all of them.

Don't feel too bad about it. I failed nine times before finding a successful way to raise them on my tenth try.
