Starting a stand alone Chaeto tank

the other tang

I am starting a stand alone chaeto tank. I am in the planning stages of a 150g reef and currently have a 40g. I have a 10g and a light for the Chaeto tank, should I use a powerhead or a air pump? How important is heat, does it matter at all, +- how much, what if I want to grow pods too? I will drill this tank in the future but not for now. I also need a way to boost my phos and nitrates, right? I plan to use my old water from water changes but don't think that will be enough how can I add? Feeding flake and having no fish makes sense to boost both levels. I might also want to grow some type of algae for my tang to eat, what should I grow?

Ulva(sea lettuce) is very easy to grow and most herbivorous fish love it. A heater probably isnt necessary unless the room gets quite cool. I would use a small powerhead rather than an air pump just to avoid all the salt creep from the bubbles.

Since this will end up in my tank what is a safe way to boost the Nitrates, and should I be concerned about boosting phosphates it would seem I would.
