Starting My Next Build

After having the bottom seam on both my 120g and 220g give out in the past year and a half, I am taking the big step tonight in my new project. I am sick of having everything left over from the 220g stuffed in my 75g and 100g rubbermaid stock tank. I have already started tearing the wall down where the tank is going to be and run three designated 20amp breakers. Heading out right now to go purchase the new home for everything!:spin1:

I just got home from buying a lot more rock, inverts, and some coral for when the new tank arrives. Really do not have anymore room to hold anything else now.

And while I was there put my order in for a Marineland 300DD with starphire on the front panel. I ordered a stand because I am in my last semester of school right now and do not have time to build one. Also was a big fan of having a lifetime warranty after my issues in the past with tanks. I am going to try and get some time this weekend and will start posting some pics of the build process.

I have wanted to start the build thread for months and now that I have finally started some of the construction and ordered the tank I think it is time. This process will be kind of slow due to 9 weeks left in my last semester of school so there is not much free time for me after working 50+ hours a week and then completing homework.
The equipment list that I have so far for this build process is:

Main Display Tank:
"¢ Marineland 300DD (72"x36"x27")
"¢ Starphire glass on front panel
"¢ 2 "“ 1.5" drains
"¢ 2 "“ returns(will be used as backup drains)
"¢ Marineland pine majesty stand

Filtration:
"¢ Rubbermaid 100g stock tank for live rock
"¢ Acrylic refugium
"¢ ASM G-5 recirculation & gate valve mods
"¢ Multiple media reactors
"¢ Coralife UV sterilizer
"¢ Customer algae scrubber

Lighting:
"¢ 2 "“ Coralvue 400W electronic metal halide ballasts
"¢ 2 "“ Lumen Bright reflectors
"¢ 2 "“ Reeflux 10k bulbs
"¢ 1 "“ Coralvue 250W electronic metal halide ballast
"¢ 1 "“ Coralvue HGI pendant
"¢ 1 "“ Reeflux 10k bulb
"¢ Ice Cap 660 ballast
"¢ 2 "“ 72" VHO actinic

Circulation:
"¢ Reeflo Dart (return, feed skimmer/media reactors)
"¢ Reeflo Hammerhead & Ocean Motion
"¢ 2 "“ Tunze 6055s
"¢ 3 "“ Jalli 110 top mounts
"¢ 4 "“ Maxi Jets w/mods for 100g Rubbermaid stock tank

Additional Equipment:
"¢ Aqua Euro 400 calcium reactor
"¢ Milwaukee PH monitor
"¢ APEX controller & accessories
"¢ 3 "“ Jager 300W heaters
"¢ Exhaust fan to control humidity

There will be more added, because I am sure I forgot about some equipment for the setup. Once the main system is up and running the quarantine tank and frag tanks will be added.

The tank is going to be built in a wall between the main room in the basement and the laundry room. Below are some pics of the wall that is being removed so the tank can be put in place.

Two of the designated outlets will go on this wall and the third one will be installed in the new wall where the tank will be placed.

Once I finish tearing the rest of the drywall, walls, and shelves down in the rooms I will have a job of cleaning the block with bleach and water before they are all sealed.

Here is one of the smallest pieces of new live rock I picked up. Some of the other pieces are atleast twice the size if not three times.

The order was submitted to Marineland today and they are saying it will be 2-3 weeks to get the tank. Wasn't expecting it to come that quick so I will have to work fast to get the rooms ready.

I got a little more work done on the rooms today. I finished removing the rest of the wall where the tank is going and the shelves on the side wall. The walls were wire brushed and scrubbed with bleach water just to make sure everything was clean. Applied the first coat of sealer on one of the walls and planning on putting the second coat on tonight. I then need to prep the floor where the tank will sit. Picked up some floor paint and sand that I am hoping to start applying either late tonight or tomorrow.

06busa- I just wanted to throw out there that I'm in Westerville also and although I have some pretty limited time also, if you are ever in a pinch, give me a holler. I will always help if I can. -Easily Distracted, aka: John, aka: 04zx7

We got the tank moved in yesterday, had one small issue with the bottom trim piece. The silicone wasn't completely set and when pressure was put on the corner of the trim piece it popped it off. So this weekend I will have to clean their silicone off and reattach the bottom trim piece. Other than that everything looks great with the tank.

I am not 100% sure how I want to do the aquascaping. I know I want to have more of an open plan with multiple islands. And then have a couple of the islands connected with 2 large flat pieces I have.

Also yesterday my Reeflo Hammerhead on OM 8-way showed up. I will try and get some pics up this weekend, school is killing me right now and don't have any time.

Distracted - I may check with you when it comes time to set the tank on top of the stand. I figure it will take maybe 6 people unless I can get a hold of some glass locks again and then it can be done with 4.

busa shoot me an email if you need anything. i will do what i can as well, im in gahanna so im close

Sounds good...any time people help with heavy tasks like that I usually fire up the grill and get beer:beer:

After a few rough weeks of school I finally got a little time to start on some other projects. I had one issue with the stand not being tall enough for the drains to have enough room to run over the top of the 100g rubbermaid sump. I finished painting the floor where the tank is going to go and built the platform to raise the stand/tank. I built a platform out of 2x6s and 1/2 inch plywood to give me an extra 6" of height.

I put the stand in place to see how it sits and now just have to get some shims and make sure everything is perfectly level. In the pics I have the stand facing the opposite direction it will be when it actually is in place. I wish I could have the doors facing back into the room but due to the drains I will have the doors hidden by the wall that will be built.

And the tank...kinda!

I reattached the bottom trim last weekend to give it enough time to fully cure before attempting to put the tank on the stand. Yesterday my wife threw me a graduation party  which also turned out to be a perfect time to put the tank in place.

Figured it was a good idea to move the tank before the party really got started and turned into:

Me finally starting to enjoy having a life again

Just a couple of the reasons why the tank was moved first :lolspin:
