I ordered some f/2 with silica, nanno, and Isochrysis from Florida aqua farms today. The goal is to make enough phyto to dose my tank a little every day and have enough extra to trade for frags. I'll post pictures when I get my set up built.
Update, I am up and running with large thanks to Olin. I start with sterile fresh mixed salt water at 1.019 and 1.022 dependent on the species, in a sterile container, add my cultures, use a sterile glass pipet with in line filter in place of the rigid airline tube. F/2 is used to grow the culture at 1ml per liter. My current cultures are Nannochloropsis, and Isochrysis. I'm planning on adding another species to my culturing soon. The bottles are aerated vigorously. Lighting is currently 2 100w equivalent daylight cfl bulbs in shop lights. Light cycle is 16 hrs on, 8 hrs dark. Here is a photo of my current progress.
I got a new coralife commercial style pump to keep up with the air I need to push as I up my number of bottles. So far total investment into this project $120
This sat I will have 2 gal available I can have them seperate or I can blend them together, shelf life if refrigerated is a month if shaken up a couple times a week., also im looking into culturing pods if anyone is interested
