Starting Over

Hello everyone,
I have been away from the hobby for about 4 years now and I cant believe how much has changed. The more I read, the more I realize I dont know.

So I set up my 46 bow in the front living room just to get my feet wet again. I would like to have a small reef tank (coral stock very light) and a few small fish.

I built a 10 fuge that fit nicely underneath. However my house is very dry and after trying different remedies I was losing entirely too much water. The result was having to add water daily to keep from having ton of air bubbles pumped up from the return. With my schedule I am just not home everyday and could not keep up with it. That idea was scrapped.

Now I have a Aquaclear 70 and my old trusty Red Sea prism protein skimmer I will just use as HOB's. I also have a couple of circulation pumps. Questions I have....

Should I modify the AC70 to a small refugium? (great thread on RC to do this as a DIY) Or should I use as is with the included foam pad and maybe some chemipure (or any other type of inserts)?

Any questions/suggestions are encouraged.

Thank you,
Copper

PS The coral will not be added for at least 3 months or more

Also, I used an AC 70 before (it was an AC300 back then) with great success in my 44 pentagon. Basically the same stock of fish and corals as I want to do now. Everything thrived. the only problem I had was hair algae and that was my fault for not properly dealing with the high phosphates. (over feeding, inadequate water quality, infrequent water changes etc.)
