Starting to get used to my Nikon D80

I'm a noob when it comes to these SLR's. My last digital camera was a Fuji Finepix 3800. These were all taken with the Nikon D80 and the 105mm VR micro lens. All settings are out of the box (no time to play with them) and I used the nikon provided Pictureproject editing software. I love the new VR lenses. It makes taking pictures so easy and I took all these shots without even using a tripod!!! I'm sure in the right hands the capabilities of this camera are amazing, not to mention if one would edit the photos using professional software such as Photoshop.

Here is my Swallowtail Angel transitioning from female to male (I have two other females)

Here are some of the first pics I ever took with the camera

I purchased it as a Purple Rhino. I looked online but couldn't find any pics of a blue rhino for comparison. It might be the lighting in my tank but that is its true color in my tank (no camera tricks). I have 250W 14K radiums with 96W PC actinics. My other rhinos changed color slightly. I have one that I also purchased as a purple but looked more purplish/red when I got it and now it looks more red. (see pics in gallery) I hope this one stays the same. Here it is with one of my red rhinos for comparison.

They will eat whatever can fit in their mouth so I no longer keep small fish. Soon after I put them in the tank my royal gramma and yellow goby disappeared. My other fish are too large or too fast and mostly swim in the middle or top of the tank. My frogfish are in their own tank and are far worse than the rhinos. They will eat fish their own size and probably try to eat fish even bigger.

The grouper looks big in the pic but is actually smaller than the anthias. I still have some time before he rules the tank.

Very nice shots; love the Rhinos.

I've stopped using both my Tamron 90mm and Nikon 60mm after picking up the VR lens. It's just that good.

Very nice !!!! Just picked up the D80 myself, can't wait to figure out how to use it. Not sure I am ready yet to plop down $800 on a lense.

Ohhh how I want that lens.... I keep asking myself for it for christmas. When I ask "her" I get the "evil eye" and no verbal response. I am sure if I push it, the verbal response will not be a kind one. So that leaves me and my own christmas shopping.

i read that u can get a true macro at 200mm from that lens at 8 inch away is this true can u get macro shots at 8 inch away?
jeff i got a sigma 105 macro lens & it's awesome

You can get just about any macro shots at 8" away. The 8" is referring to distance to get 1:1.

VR lens and a couple of skeleton shrimps at 1:1.
