Starting with Coral Propagation Tank

Hey everyone!

I've dove into research after moving to a new home with ample square footage for a nice sized tank. The more I research various topics to maintain and succeed with a saltwater endeavor, the more I am drawn to the process of propagating coral. Especially the social aspect of swaping and sharing.

While I have freshwater experience, I have zero in saltwater.

With due diligence, research, and focusing on "beginner friendly" options, I'd like to hear thoughts from experienced reefers on if starting with a coral frag/propagation tank is a good or bad idea. Also, if it is something that is maybe more common than I think.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a 40g breeder but I was looking at something like the setup I saw by BRS TV on YouTube with the hydroponic tank.

I have lots of hydroponic stores locally that often run aggressive sales and deals, so I likely could get a great deal.

If you do enough research and start with easy to grow corals you should be fine, but I would advise against stony corals until you have a handle on your water chemistry and your new tank stabilizes.

Thanks @thegrun. I'm definitely looking at starting with some easy, inexpensive softies.

Long term, I'd definitely like to do some SPS & LPS but not until I have a tight grip on my water conditions.
