Steely's Mr. Aqua 17.4

Thanks that one has been coloring up under the kessil. Lobo's just seem to like less intense light IME.

My hands down favorite of mine is this one. It was olive and brown in the store under bad lighting and turned out like this under halides as well as LEDs.

I've been looking around for a couple weeks at fish to possibly add. Right now I'm thinking about adding a pair of midnight or domino clownfish.

I would like to add an Atlantic pygmy angel but I'm leery with all my lps.

Why the dominos? I hear they can ugly and mean. Fast. :( This is just what I read though.

Just to clarify the ORA domino clownfish and not a domino damsel.

I would say no more aggressive than any other ocellaris clownfish.

I'm going to try and get some video tonight. Gotta charge the dslr battery first. It should be lacking the excitement of fish but should still look nice.

The video didn't turn out so hot. It's difficult to shoot with the LEDs. Either too dim or too bright. I will work on it though.

Some new pics for now.

Just a little update

Moved a few things. Tank is a little overdue for some maintenance and a month overdue for a water change. Been busy the last month getting married and stuff so gonna get back in the swing of things soon.

Didn't bother to clean up before the shots. The lack of cleaning over the last month shows. Need to clean up a bit of algae and get rid of some flatworms. Not quite sure where they came from considering I haven't added anything new in a long time. Gotta kalk some aptasia as well.

Peppermint shrimp did wonders on my aptesias! I put 3 in and in about a week all aptasias were gone? Nice tank btw! Have you noticed any negative effects to acans? Reason im asking is im pretty succesuful keeping acans until i went leds. Not sure if they are too powerful. Im using ai sol nano only about 30 percent of power on all 3 leds.

I've never had any luck with peppermint shrimp in any tank. They never last more than a week or so. Didn't matter if the water was pristine by all tests they just seem to be more sensitive even with long acclimation times using drip methods. I'm just going to kalk paste them along with some majanos.

I haven't had any problems with with my acans. They actually do really well in this tank under the kessil. They have been under the kessil for a couple months now and a par30 before that. They colored up under the kessil and plumped up as well. I feed the tank a cube of mysis or cyclopese every couple weeks as well.

wierd huh! you cant keep peppermint shrimp and i cant keep acans. i think i need to lower the intensity but i figured at 30 percent intensity that would be low enough but apparantly not. hey, i'll give up keeping peppermints if i can figure out acans!

Thank you.

I would consider the A350 but want to see it first. I like the idea of dialing in color with it but I want to make sure the colors blend as well as with the A150w. If they do and the measurements are good I would consider switching out my 75's halides for them. I'm really happy with the A150w. The color achieved is better than most LEDs that I have seen.

I may finally breakdown and get some fish for this tank. I need some ideas.

I was thinking of adding a trio of blue eyed cardinals. I think they would add some nice contrast and their eyes would look great under the kessil.

sure. It's a simple setup.

flow: korallia 2
filter: aquaclear 30 running a bag of GFO
light: kessil ocean blue 15k LED
heater: stealth heater (not sure on wattage, had it laying around)

That's about it. No dosing with this tank. I feed a cube of mysis or cyclopese every couple weeks. No fish currently. I clean the glass a couple times a week and do a five gallon water change every 2-4 weeks. I do manual top offs of water a couple times a week. That's about it. It's been running this way for about 3 months or more. It ran this way when it was a 20 gallon for about 3 months before that. Very easy to maintain.

I haven't seen any die off but have seen growth. If I kept up with water changes more often or dosed I'm sure there would be more growth.

The 30% may be the reason. That is a really low amount of light. Most that use the AI are in the 60-75% range from my research.
