steinitz goby and peppermints

my steinitz goby is a splinter cell. he doesnt come out much and its nice to see him when he does. (im all good with that. he does what he does)
i had two peppermint shrimps with him before and they ended up passing when i was out of town. (still trying to find out why:mad:)
i just bought another peppermint shrimp yesterday, and checked the tank today to find nothing but his tail end close to where the steinitz likes to stay.
I know that shrimps molt, but this shell looks like it has some flesh inside of it, and there is still no sign of the little guy. i know that steinitz gobies usually pair with certain shrimps with no problems, but i'm unsure if they will feast on them either?
i guess if it's small enough to fit in a fish's mouth then they'll usually try and eat it, but i've had no problems in the past with having them both thriving in the tank.

can anyone clue me in on what probably happened?
until then, i'll be checking to see if little man crawls out....
peppermints are spectacular specimens!

[welcome]

I had a steinitz for years, love em.
Think they are kinda under rated, rarely see them.
Peps I'm not a fan of myself, though opinions vary.
Mine killed snails more than any aptasia.
Never had a prob w/ any shrimp or anything else w/ my steinitz.

yeah, all opinions vary... can't get away from that one....
i checked the sump as well, but no sign... he could be hiding deep in the chado, but i'll keep an eye out.
and yes, steinitz are great. i actually like that he hides. he's good friends with the brittle star which is peculiar...
any suggestions on what foods the steinitz prefer? he likes everything i feed, but a treat now and then never hurt any fish.
but i guess he could have had his treat by gulping down my peppermint....

I highly doubt he ate shrimp.
They're pretty mellow.
I know what you mean, it was a nice rare treat when he came out.
What kind of brittle star?
Green ones I hear do bad things.
Do you dose iodine?

My steinitz hasnt ever bothered anything in the tank, but he also has a pistol shrimp to hang with, maybe that helps to keep him mellow. He eats some of the sinking pellets when they get past all the other fish, but other than that I think he just fends for himself as far as food goes. Thats him in my avatar, he like to watch whats going on from his hole in front of the glass.

are you referring to the pagoda question? if so yes i do.
hes not a green brittle, he hides too! i think that's why they get along so well.
