Stenopus cyanoscelis larvae

Decided to post some pics of the larvae I have before they all die out if they do not settle. Almost vomitted blood today when I saw so many larvae tangled up in the blended seafood mix I fed them. Got tired of separating them at their uropods (tails) where they ALWAYS get tangled up in. Just left them alone and tuned aeration to the max. Probably expecting many deaths tomorrow. Oh well guess I should just stick to spirulina flake, since my stock of Cyclopeeze has been confiscated! :(

Larvae at 65 days.

Pleopod buds noticed at 65 days. The spine like protrusion is there once the larvae hatch.

The legs at 65 days. Never counted how many there were.

Dead S. cyanoscelis larvae at 71 days. Already stopped adding microalgae as it seems to harm the larvae during this point.

Good pics:)
Count the legs where they emerge from the body, they branch further away.
Do I see three pair plus a couple of buds in your pic?.They seem to have only three pairs during their early larval life.

Probably more than 3 pairs of appendages. Never took time to count, all appears as a mass of appendages. :rolleye1: If they are still stuck with 3 pairs at over 70 days I think I could jolly well dump them. Good news is that only 1 larvae died today (possibly due to me trying to separate the tangled ones yesterday with unprofessional surgical skills). Somehow the others that got tangled managed to turn up just fine. Possibly other larvae ate up the food which were tangling the other larvae.

FuEl,

What type of microscope do you use? Do you get those pictures with a handheld digital camera or do you have one of those fancy ones that hook into the microscope? Are you thinking of purchasing a microscope in the near future, and if so what kind will you be getting? Have you tried breeding Thor(sexy anemone shrimp) yet?
