Stichodactyla gigantea placement

Hi,

Can you place a gig up on an 'Island' like where you would place a ritteri/magnifica, (so it doesn't walk)? Will it be happy there or does it need to be on the bottom? I don't have room on the bottom.

Thanks,

MM

It is not easy to place Gigantea. Gigantea like to hide their foot. I find that they can stay on the sand, sand rock interface or on the rock. They need bright light and sometime good flow. Many stay at low flow area for many years without problem.
Just give them bright light and reasonable flow and they likely not moving too much. I was able to place all of mine except my green Gig. He slowly moved and ended up next to the overflow. Very good current but relatively low light. I put a spot light right on him and he is happy. No moving for the last 8 months. I am happy that he does not move anymore even if the place he ended up is not optimal for viewing. My tank is so crowned that any anemone movement have the disaster potential. One move cause other anemones to move.

I try to find a rock with a depression in it. Seems like once they suck into the depression they stay there. I have one high in the tank under high flow and one low under much less flow. They both seem to be equally happy. I really think once you get a healthy one they are pretty adaptable.

i place mine in a ceramic "cup" and glue the cup to a magnet. it just hang off my backwall. i can move it to wherever i wanted along the backwall. as long as it got decent flow and light, it havent move out the cup yet.
not the best pic, just above the clam in the photo.
i have a second cup made, i have a green carpet coming i will have it mount to the right side of the tank. this way i have better control of the nem and use the space better.
