Stick with RKL? Or something new?

I had an RKL running my big cube and it was fine. I have zero experience with anything else so I have no basis for comparison. Should I stick with it for the new build (replacement costs aside) or is there something else I should be looking at? Feature wise the RKL was enough for me EXCEPT I would like smartphone control or at least alerts this time. I didn't have the net module on the RKL and I lost some livestock once when on vacation and our house AC went out during the summer causing the tank to overheat.

Thanks!

If you like it stick with it... If it isn't broke don't fix it, I think n you can send yours in for a partial credit towards a new unit.

Why not just get the net module? That by far is the cheapest option.

I dunno, that's why I'm asking. Is that the best solution or is there something better I should be looking at? I'm not looking for the cheapest option, I'm looking for the best for my needs.

Going by what you posted it seem the net module would be perfect for you.

Give you remote access with iphone/android app and email alerts.

Keep it. The RKL is the best entry level controller on the market and it is expandable and can even be changed to the RKE. IME the RKL is easier to navigate that the RKE and will do nearly all the same stuff.

If you want smart phone control and alerts, look at the Apex line of products from Neptune, in my opinion the web interface and smartphone apps for the Apex line are better than those for the RK line. I have owned both DA and Neptune products (RKE/RKL and Apex) and I find the Apex to be superior, as do many many others on this forum.

Have you considered the Apex JR, an entry level controller with smart phone support, 4 heavy duty outlets, and networking for only $150.

There is also the ReefAngel, but I find the commercial offerings are still a bit more user friendly in my opinion.

If price is not an option, you could look at controllers like the Profilux or the soon the be released (maybe) Vertex Cerebra.

Hope this helps,
Landon
