Im going to be setting up an aggresive tank and would like oppinons on blue spot stingrays. Are they difficult to keep, ect.
Thanks everyone

There are 2 kinds
Dasyatis kuhlii- A very hardy ray, not especially common in the trade, gets about 20 inches accross requiring a tank of about 10 feet by 4 feet
Taeniura lymma(ribbon tail ray)- A beautiful ray commonly seen in trade for about $100. Does not fair well in captivity, hard to start feeding, and even after eating prepared foods will die of unknown causes. The reason speculated is that this ray is very nomadic and can travel over 100 miles a day. Although this ray is beautiful and more vibrant than the first ray I mentioned I would reccommend this ray to even the most experienced keeper. I can only name a couple of people who have been successful with them and that is after going through about 2 or 3 of them and providing them with a several thousand gallon pond.

I don't recommend getting a Taeniura lymma, very hard ray to keep. However, a Dasyatis kuhlii would be perfect. Very hardy and most do fairly well in captivity. You'll need a tank of AT LEAST 8' x 4'.
