STN/RTN.. I need a hug.

Good morning,

Woke up to a beautiful colony of A. hyacinthus wiped out, and my pink birds nest has been STNing for 2 weeks.

Alk swing, PH swing, No clue.. It's pretty discouraging. Every other coral is perfectly fine.

I share your pain. Lost my Oregon tort and red dragon last week, thankful they were only frags and not colonies. All other acros are doing fine... [emoji58]

Dealing with AEFW at the moment. My acropora are not liking the hospital tank. Lost my Fuzzy Chips Tribute acro which was my favorite. 5 weeks fallow this coming Monday. Putting everyone back in the main display. I hope the aefw are all dead and I never see them again.

Is your home closed up? Reason I ask is when we close our homes up c02 rises and ph tends to crash. I run an airline outside for my skimmer which keeps my ph around 8.15 in the winter time.

This is the best time to actual grow reef knowledge when only a few coral RTN/STN and most are fine. Don't give it up.

Both coral STN you mentioned need good turbulence and currents when compare to staghorn kind of coral. Maybe pay some attention of your wave maker and improve from there. Just my two cents.

Sorry for your losses. I experienced a major tank crash last Spring and it was no fun. Pink birds nest were my nemesis for a while as well. I would purchase a frag and it would be dead within a week. They seem to be very sensitive to water conditions over other species of birds nest corals. For some unknown reason, they now thrive in my tank. Sometimes a micro-nutrient gets depleted and more sensitive species will perish due to this deficiency. Unfortunately, we can't test for everything in our sea water. pH is a small possibility, but only if associated with a very strong swing in alkalinity. It sucks when you lose a coral you really like. I have been in this hobby for 12 years and it hurts when I scroll through old pictures of all the nice pieces I have lost. Eventually you get better at testing and keeping your parameters more stable, but ultimately some corals are hardier than others. The good strains will thrive and the weaker strains will perish.

Thanks y'all. Im driving back home today from Austin so hopefully Ill find everything not melting away. I really think adjusting my Ca. and Alk had a lot to do with it. Those alk swings are lethal.

Thank you for the support. It really sucks. I literally have no time for anything, and i try to invest what I do have into my tanks. It sucks..
