what causes this disease? Just found one of my sps with its flesh coming off,any ideas? Parameters are 440,9 for dkh,and 1290 for MG,pH at 8.2 and temp at 77. PO4 is at .02.

stn and rtn are not "diseases"

they are symptoms of countless other potential causes

how long have you had the coral??

Is it a colony or frag?

If a colony, and maricultured or especially wild caught a month or two is a common point at which they want to go if you dont have very stable parameters and high flow, or sometimes they do it just because they feel like it

so would it go away,I do stable parameters,I am suprise that the colony on some branches has it,only that coral, not the others.

regardless of what causes any given coral to rtn, if the recession isnt stopping you need to cut it up in an effort to save what you can

cut it well into healthy tissue for the frags you cut off, and remount the frags sealing any open ends with a light layer of glue. If there is base left same thing, eliminate any dead branches, seal all open wounds remaining from what you cut off with a thin layer of glue. Hope for the best. Parameters willing you can usually save parts

Pete yes you have to cut if it keeps going. That big piece you gave me of yours had it it stopped and is growing back. when i had a alk swing one of mine did it a year ago

Yeah,Bob so its mainly alk swings? My alk stays between 9 to 9.5,would pH affect it,notice that it was lower today at 8.2,use to be 8.3 to 8.4,not sure what it signifies. I will keep a close eye on my tank. I notice an hour ago that the salinity drop a point from 1.025.
