Stock list for 90 gallon

Im in beginning stages of getting started in my new tank but while doing so I want to have time to research different fish. Im going to add lost of base rock in my tank with live rock throughout and give it time to grow. I'm not going to fool with anemone's until a get atleast a year under my belt and give my tank time to thrive. I want a nice community tank for my baby boy to grow up with. A couple of clowns and a blue tang are must whether when they are added is the question and what all other fish would make good tankmates...So with all that being said let's hear it!

Hello, this sounds like it is going to be a nice tank when done.

If you mean a Blue hippo tang, I think those, from reading the sticky on tangs, need a bigger tank 8-10ft long.

What about a Kole or Bristletooth tang instead?

some angel fish would be good. I have a flame and a flameback and yhey look amazing

Thanks but u just popped my bubble! I looked it up and it says they really need a tank with 24 inch width when they are fully grown so a 180 sounds like minimum...Crazy cause Iswear I have seen them in tanks smaller....Oh well I will have to find something else I suppose

You will have seen them in smaller tanks, it just doesn't mean that it was the right stocking decision. Good for you for starting the research early.

How about:
an orchid dottyback (p. Fridmani) - beautiful color, cool behavior (hunts small pods and the like), reef safe.
Coral beauty Angel - Beautiful color, cool behvior (forages on live rock); but not reef safe.
Yellowtail Damsel - Nice color, mine was very calm, reef safe.

I'm looking into exactly the same situation. What I have decided upon so far is, obviously, my current stock list:-
* flame angel: A rescue. My wife loves this guy. He's the reason the wife sanctioned the upgrade.
* bicolor blenny: My fave. Full of personality. Mine is a real deep midnght blue/purple.
* ocellaris clowns: Kids' favorites. My son loves how they come right up to glass to greet him. Gets him giggling every time.

The new additions would be a bristletooth tang (either a kole, spotted, or white-tail), and a couple of wrasses (narrowed down to Lubbock's, Pink Margin, or a couple of the flashers).

I would love a Fathead Anthias but I think a 90 is too small for one of them.
