Stock List

My tank is 48x24x12H.

I went to donate my Purple-Strip Dottyback to Caesars yesterday and made the mistake of asking my girls if they wanted to say good-bye. Gallons of tears later, I agreed to keep it.

That said, my planned stock list is down the drain, since I'll need to put other agressive fish in with the Dottyback.

I'm now thinking:
The Purple-Strip
Splendid Dottyback
Six-line Wrasse
2 or 3 Damsels

My original list included a couple clowns
A Kole Yellow Eye Tang
and
A Possum Wrasse
I'm guessing none of these would work anymore.

Does anyone know how onw of these Tangs would do in this mix? Maybe instead of the damsels? I think I need to stick to a Ctenochaetus tang because of my tank size.

Open to (polite) commentary.

I have always liked pseudochromis and that splendid looks awsome. A kole tang and clowns can go with your dottyback, I'm not sure about the possum. Why did you want to take it back?

The dottyback ate my cleaner shrimp and was pretty agressive towards my clown in my BioCube. It may have just not been fed enough, and that is why it ate the shrimp. Maybe too close of confines for the clown and it?

So would this work:
Purple Strip
Splendid
Six Line
Kole Eye

Put the dottyback in the sump, life sentence. LOL. Or set up a small 5 gal nano for the girls. Then, you can have fun with tangs and big fish for your new tank.

The dottyback is already getting comfy in his new house. I can't have *that* big of fish anyway because of the 12" height of the tank.

I was originally thinking (and told by others) that I should stay with Ctenochaetus tangs, because they didn't have the "tall" body shape. You think a tang of another type, like the purple, would be okay? I'm worried the 12" height will be restrictive. Thanks for the input.

I loved my purple tang till it started pounding my acans. There's a beautiful smaller purple tang at Caesars at the moment with great color.

Do all tangs eat hair algae? Just curious. I hear talk of yellow tangs doing it, but wasn't sure if that was specific to yellows or not.

I've noticed my yellow tang pick at hair algae more than my blue tang, but cant speak for other tangs. It could be cause my blue tang is so fat though :)

I also have a dottyback (all purple) and it is very aggressive, if I could catch it, it would be gone. The good news is after a while my dottyback does not mess with any of the fish. But if I try to add any new fish it will pick at em all day.

I also noticed the purple tang at Caesars last week, it was beautiful. I want a 3rd tang, but dont know what would go with a yellow tang and a blue tang. And a 48x18x18 tank is probably too small for a 3rd tang :( But it would give me a reason to upgrade in a year or two.

Last list mod...as if anyone cared anymore :p

Purple Stripe
White Tail Bristeltooth tang
2 x anthias (via Shane)
Splendid
Sixline

Over stocked for a 60? Seems about right.

The white tail bristle tooth on live aquaria looks cool. Have you seen any around here or are you going to order one. That splendid dottyback is a nice looking fish too.

I need to work on a stock list for my tank too
