Stocking 75 fowlr no sump

Guys I just lost a clownfish in qt. I dosed the prazipro 2 days ago and he slowly got worse and worse. White face, gasping constantly, wouldn't eat. Gills popped open. I guess he had flukes. I had lots of oxygenation too. The other clownfish and chromis are doing great, swimming, eating, and happy. The clowns were really small, about an inch, I know from experience small young fish are harder to keep. I shouldn't Have bought them. Really sucks to lose him. My main tank is down from 1.0 to 0.25 ammonia.

Best to have zero ammonia in the tanks whether quarantine or the main/display tank. Why do you say it was ammonia of 1.0 before? Did you have a mass die off??

Ah I see. Probably was too late for me to be posting with sleep-deprived delirium. Obviously normal for a cycling tank to have ammonia :)

Sorry to hear about your fish. Wish I was more knowledgeable about fish disease. Not sure if it was flukes or not of course, but generally Prazipro is a suitable treatment I had thought except against the eggs of fluke. Maybe that one fish was weaker? If it wasn't flukes and is some other parasite I suppose the other fish could be at risk if whatever it is is not effectively combated with Prazipro. Maybe post about it in the fish disease & treatment sub-forum to double check?

I would recommend reading the sticky in ICH from Snorvich now. As you are just starting out and have a qt tank you may want to start right the first time and QT the fish ensuring that ich never gets in your tank.

Yes saltwater fish keeping takes patience!

have fun!

Yeah I read that, alot of the qt threads actually. All the info helped me to decide to quarantine. Strange that at the fish store they look at you weird when you talk about quarantine. Oh well. I know I'm protecting myself and the fish. The chromis is doing outstanding, healthy, smooth, shiny. The clown I have is doing great too. Full of energy, active, and no spots or flashing/ scraping from either of them.
