Stocking a 220 gallon question (Regal Angel, PBT)

I just bought a 220 gallon (72L x 24W x 30T) and I plan on combining the fish from my two other tanks that I currently have into this one. I plan to move these fish to the new tank

- Blonde Naso Tang
- Kole Tang
- Porcupine Puffer
- One Spot Fox face
- Copperband Butterfly
- Melanurus Wrasse
- Royal Gramma
- Clownfish (Mated Pair)

I would like to also add

- Powder Blue Tang
- Regal Angel
- Male Bluejaw Trigger
- Flame Angel

Do you think I could keep a regal angel and a powder blue tang together in a 220G? Do you think the fish tank would be over stocked? I already have a mixed reef and none of the fish I currently have including the porcupine puffer have ever killed anything. How reef safe is the regal angel? Id appreciate any feedback

Regal is reef safe. You should get one before the pbt, since they can be aggressive and the regal is a difficult fish to get eating sometimes.

A puffer and trigger eat a lot and make a lot of waste but if you keep up with water changes you should be okay.

Regals are often fed zoas to get them eating. I have heard a lot of success keeping them in SPS heavy tanks.

This.

However, if you can, try to add the regal before any other fish. From your original post it sounds like other fish aren't in the tank yet? If so, then try and source a regal. QT is a must for these guys to keep their weight.

I've kept both together in the past with no issues, and they have always done well together. I have a powder blue in my 180 now, have a regal in quarantine, and have another regal showing up on Sunday. I expect no issues.

I was thinking about getting a regal tang instead of the powder blue tang because they are hardier and easier to find in the stores around here. Do you think it would be an issue when the regal tang and the naso get bigger? Or will they be fine together as adults in a 220? Or should I just stick with the PBT and the blonde naso tang?

Nah, if you like the blue hippo better than the PBT, do it. PBTS are always nasty and never are very mellow.. Blue hippos are usually mellow and are sometimes mean.

I'd get the hippo.

@ fishfreak2009, I bet your PB will stress that Regal out, especially being already established in the tank. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Regal was added to the display today and no issues from the powder blue at all. Only fish that got upset was the lined rabbitfish? He didn't like the regal for the first hour or so, but has settled down now. I'm actually upgrading my tank to a 96"x48"x18" display though, so that should give everyone even more room.

As for the OP, I think you'll be fine.
