Stocking a 24 Gal Nano

i would not put a sixline in anything less than a 30 (and imo thats even cutting it close...mine is crazy and its in a 40 breeder...still all over the place tho. Thats how my old one was too but that was in a 55).

I would not do the manderin either. They need tons of pods, which generally means tons of live rock for the pods to grow, which there is just not enough room for in a 24. So unless you realize their strict diet and have a plan to be able to feed them live pods all the time, forget the manderin :)

And i may be wrong here...but i'm pretty sure coral banded shrimp are mean little punks and would tear up a cleaner.

my peppermint actuallly keeps my CBS in check, when they met the CBS didn't have its two big claws (he never let go of the net when I transfered him from another tank), I think because of this the peppermint staked its claim and has lots of rock to hide in.

I second what dudeguy said. I've heard that sixlines can be bullies in smaller tanks, even tho they're small fish. Mandarins need crazy ammounts of pods, which requires tons of rocks and sand, which a nano just can't support. I would agree that the shrimp would fight as well.

Maybe get 2 cleaner shrimp, a pair of clowns, and an anemone? BTW I would only do the anemone if you're advanced enough to keep one, and also are able to resist the temptation of adding tons of corals and other stuff. Now that I've got a 24g nanocube full of random soft corals and LPS and a few montiporas, I wish I went with a species only display, or a specific type of display, because now I've got the random coral collection in my big tank.

I third the above. I think you are okay on shrimp (though a pepp shrimp has the advantage of eating aptaisia over the cleaner)---I have a cbs and pepp in my tank for a few months, no problems. Oh, and a sexy shrimp, as well!
I'd avoid the wrasse and the mandarin for sure!

Plus the Six line also eats pods, it would be a waste of money even if you decided to get eithor of them

The Six line would out compete the mandarin..the mandarin would starve

The six line would also most likely terrorize your tank, they are like tangs, and Must SWIM... he'll just stress your fish.

I would keep
2 percs
1 royal Gramma-or- Firefish/goby
a few shrimp/inverts.

well unlike manderins, they dont JUST eat pods. Both my sixlines that i've had would take anything and everything. Flake, mysis, plankton, you name it and it would take it. But yes, it does pick at the pods all day, but my point is that is not all they eat. They're a very easy fish to keep, they just require more space.

I've never seen that out of either of my 2 sixlines. In fact, both of them would "school" with 2 seperate clown pairs and ignored all the other fish i had.

I think the reason lots of people say their sixlines are mean is because they try putting them in small tanks (like 10's, 15's, 20's, and imo even a 30 would make it be a bit nippy).

i have a baby sixline in my 24 and it is fine, it has a little cave just it can fit into and it swims around and looks happy, cool little fish

I have a sixline and two true percs in my 24 gallon. The sixline spends his time swimming in and out of the rocks and staring at himself in the glass. He shows some minor aggression on occasion as he will dart from the rocks at my perculas. He has never bitten or attacked them though. He eats anything. He will be moving to a 58 gallon in a few months once I get moved and the new tank ready and set up.
