The goby shrimp pair seems like a cool idea, I have about a 1.5" sandbed. How much to gobys need?
1.5" is plenty for shrimp gobies.
I have had my 45g corner up and running for 2.5 months now. I have a ocellaris pair in qt and I am trying to figure out what else to keep and what is my max.
Once my tank builds up enough pods in 6 months or so I plan on getting a mandarin, and maybe a small puffer. Any other suggestions?
Keeping your fish choices geared towards smaller and more peacefull species will help in keeping a calm environment and allow for a few more fish than normal. Your actual system volume will make a difference also, I have a sump and a refugium so my total water volume should be very close to yours.
I strongly advise against a Mandarin, it may work but depending on your actual set-up most likely will not. I have a very productive fuge and refuse to even attempt one.
I wanted to try a Toby(puffer) but ultimately decided against it. Just didnt feel a Toby would be a good choice for a super peacefull set-up.
Here is what I currently have,
Pinkbar shrimp goby
Hi-fin red banded shrimp goby
Tailspot blenny
Purple firefish
2 Occ clowns (these are babies and are also temp)
2 Yellow assessors (just added yesterday, wooo whooo)
The two shrimp gobies stay on the bottom but the others are in constant motion through out the water column. The Assessors are a real hoot, one swims upside down and the other rightside up, makes for an interesting contrast when one is over the top of the other.
I also have several shrimp and a porcelain crab, makes for a very active tank no matter where you look.
Future additions,
Tanakas possum wrasse
Neon goby
