Hello everyone,

I have a 28g nano and wanted to run a stocking list with some questions by you experts. I have a tunze 9002 protein skimmer, 27lbs of LR, 2 inch sandbed.

Pair of clowns(most likely ORA's naked clownfish)
royal gramma or blue spotted jawfish--suggestions??
Blue spotted watchman goby with pistol shrimp.

I have some questions on the goby/shrimp pair. Will the pair be ok with my mixed reef and other inhabitants? Which shrimp pairs up with the gobies?

Any other suggestions of fish that would be compatible are welcome!

a freind has a 2 spot goby (i think thats what it is), blue jawfish and a baby clarki in a 28g nanocube. i think you would be ok with a paiur of clowns, goby, and a jawfish or something. the list you have is fine IMHO, all 5 fish and the shrimp.

I think you will be okay with your list, but I wouldn't add any more fish than that.

If you go with the jawfish, you will need some deep sand and rubble, more than 2". IME royal grammas are hardier than jawfish. If you have the shrimp goby/pistol shrimp pair, you'll already have a fish in a tunnel, so I wouldn't see the need for another. I'd get either shrimp/goby pair OR jawfish. Also, although they aren't as rare/expensive, I prefer the pearly jawfish over the blue spotted.

An option to the gramma is the orchid dottyback - might be out a little more, also very colorful, hardy and affordable. Both are very nice fish.

The tiger pistol shrimp is a good size, and will pair with most shrimp gobies, I think. There are some pistol shrimp that don't pair with any fish. Are you considering other goby/shrimp pairs? I kept Yasha gobies with tiger pistol shrimp, as well as watchman gobies with the same...

Thanks for your responses. I have looked into the orchid dottyback. It is a beautiful fish. I think ill go with the blue spotted watchman goby and the tiger pistol shrimp pair.
I see your point with the two fish in the tunnel. I just love the mysterious things in nature that happen right here in our reef tanks!
