Stocking List for a 40 gallon

I was just thinking of what fish I could put in a 40 gallon. This will e my aggressive tank, and I know that it is small. I am planning on getting the fish as babies. It is for an online business I have, so the fish will be sold, then I will get new ones in. I was thinking maybe a baby bamboo shark or something. What's up with shark eggs? I heard that the babies often get a red belly or something, and then they "roll". Any way of stopping this? I just want something unusual. Maybe some kind of dwarf stingray or something...

For life the only fish id put in there would be a Toby or maybe a dwarf lion fish. How long would you plan on leeping a shark in the tank?

sounds like a bad idea to me. No offense but how can anyone really support the plan to keep sharks and stingrays in a 40 gallon tank? Of course you emphasize that they are temporary because you probably already know that is not a sufficient home for them. What if they don't sell?

Then I can always return them to the wholesaler, or give them to my friend, who also runs the business, who is making a shark tank. I don't emphasize that they are temporary because I know it is not sufficient. I emphasize it because it is true, and I figured people would want the details. I also have a LFS that has a 400 gallon + tank, and I am very good friends with the manager of saltwater fish. People are really snappy on the boards today...

I asked for suggestions on what to keep also, which you didn't give. You immediately seized the opportunity to jump on a younger reefer because I wasn't sure about something. This forum is about helping people, not snapping at them...

Syndrome,

Thanks for offering some real advice, instead of harassing me.

a 40 gallon is probably best used only as a quarantine tank, just to help you be realistic, I started with a 29 gallon salt and quickly learned you cant do squat with under a 55 basically, these are just the fact and reality, so i went str8 to a 150

How about a Dwarf Fuzzy Lion or a Fu Manchu Lion? I had a Fuzzy for about 8 months and really liked it. It had a great personality. I think it died of a bad diet because it would only eat frozen Krill. Or maybe a Frogfish or a Waspfish? A lot of poeple keep them here and seem to like them. I believe they are relatively hardy and cheap too.

I agree with jjcrim. I wouldn't put a shark or stingray in the tank. I don't understand the point of keeping a shark in the tank for two weeks and then returning it. I don't think jjcrim was trying to jump all over you. He was just looking out for the fish's best interests.

a dwarf fuzzy woul be an excellent choice, perhaps a frog or leaf fish. I would stay away from sharks/rays, even if they are only temp inhabitants. Perhaps a flame angel? they are gorgeous and can hold their own in an aggressive tank, baby triggers maybe?

Greg,

I wouldn't be returning it. I would be selling them. I run an online business selling fish corals, and inverts. I can see your point though, if they wouldn't sell. I was also thinking maybe a bimac octopus, but i've heard they need 55 gallons, and thne I heard someone say 40, but i'll ask around on TONMO.

Yes. I already have 10+ tanks set up for he business, and we are getting a 200 pound + shipment of live rock in tomorrow, along with probably about 50 invertebrates. We got a small shipment of fish in this past weekend, but not too many. If you want the site link, PM me.

i wouldn't do it brock, why do you ask for suggestions and not take them? you can't really do a true aggressive tank with a 40 gallon. Stick with some small fish, save up for a big tank if you really want to Hatch a shark egg

you can do an agressive tank with a 40g. .. dude.. get LEAF FISH.. i have 2 of them and they are SOOO coool... but be prepared to train onto frozen foods or buy damsels (not goldfish and FW guppies).... just in case they decide they dont want to learn to eat frozen... or a Dwarf Lionfish or a Fu Manchu lionfish (but i like my Leaf fish better) but im biased... also im in the 8th grade to... haha... im guessing u have like ur dad or someone helping with this business

No, nobody is helping me. my parents aren't into saltwater.

Emperior,

I take suggestions, just not when they are probably considered a flame. You know nothing about me, so don't tell me what I do and do not do. I have taken the suggestion, and i'm not getting the shark! Back off! I am sick of people being so rude on this board! For those of you who were being nice, polite, and giving good suggestions, I have decided to get a pair of dwarf octopus. O. bocki.

Thanks,
Brock

40 gallons works for me...

I have a 40 gallon tank that I have run for about 3 years, with one fish and one crestacian in it... I am very happy with my setup and like you I understand having to get a larger tank in the future.

I have a 40 Gallon with a Undulated Trigger which I went through the same stuff eveyone telling me the tank was too small ect. ect. even though I made everyone aware that I would get a 90 gallon when the fish needs it. Mine was about 1 inch when I got it and is not about 2 1-2 inches. The only other thing in the tank is a purple spotted lobster who hides all day.

Dont worry about what everyone else posts, keep in mind they just wish they were into it like you are in 8th grade. They all have tanks that are all set up and are bored... so they are just looking to give some advice.

PS I would like the www. link to you store / site

Wow, Brock. This whole post was very immature. People here are just trying to help you out. You never posted that you chose not to get the shark egg. From the way you were replying, it sounded like
you were dead-set on the shark and wouldn't take any educated opinions. If I were you, I'd learn common courtesy before venturing into the fish business. You are going to have to deal with customers who don't always agree with your views.

Yes, but they do so politely. I can practically hear the snickers of everyone reading this. This thread is over with, so stop replying. Wll, I said that I wasn't getting the shark, and...correct me if i'm wrong...a shark comes OUT OF a shark egg, no?

i would think that if it is only going to be temperary a snowflake eel would be good. i have one in my 29 but i am gioing to move it when i upgrade. but if it is temporary i think that a small eel or a baby triger or a baby tang would be fine.

P.S. people don't mean to flare at you but they are very into SW fish. They just care
