stocking list suggestions

So here is my unofficial stocking list for my 180g (320g total volume) mixed reef kinda sorta.


3 blue green chromis (perhaps by the time I am done with this it will be 2... since they fight all day)
1 yellow tang ( have this already about 1-2 inches long)
1 blue hippo tang (lfs got a few about 1-2 inches. compatible with a yellow tang?)
1 or 2 pairs of clowns (not sure of exact type yet... maybe b&W and something else... this would be down the road if I can find a good nem)
goby and shrimp combo (seen a few matched pairs. I will pull the trigger on this one day)

Maybe a mandarinfish... they are kinda cool, just dunno what the odds are of finding one that eats.

Thoughts on this? any suggestions for additions?

My comments based on what you wrote:
1-2 blue green chromis (because that is what is going to happen when everything settles)
1 yellow tang
1 blue hippo tang (skip, gets too big)
1 pairs of clowns (pick your favorite type, as they get larger they get territorial and will try/succeed in killing each other)
goby and shrimp combo (I would personally skip the combo, in tank as large as yours you are hardly ever going to see them)
1 mandarinfish (they all 'eat ' just not necessarily what we would like them too , as long as you have a decent amount of live rock and give your tank at least 6 months to get the pod population up, get thee your mandarin)

My suggestions:
1 powder blue or powder brown tang
1 Kole or Tomini tang
1 Starry, Lawnmower, Bi-color or Midas blenny (because blennies are awesome!)
1 fairy wrasse
1 Dwarf angel

i would not do the hippo either. a powder blue or purple tang would better suit your needs. you could get away with a few fairy wrasses really.

I really like the purple tangs but I thought they didnt get along with yellow tangs that well? I would actually prefer one of those to a hippo

I do have around 300 pounds of LR and a 75 gal fuge that I hope to grow pods in as well. Just wasn't sure if it was enough to support a mandarin that doesn't like what I have to feed him.

a blenny might be a good addition. I really need something to stir my sand which is why I was thinking about the goby shrimp combo. Although... can multiple pairs of goby/shrimp live in the same tank? If they get along it might increase my chance of at least one picking a spot I can see them.

Are the dwarf angels coral safe? or are some more safe than others?

What about anthias?

Yes - Anthias.
I just scored a trio of Ventralis, and they are the best looking fish I've seen.

Sorry, wasn't really paying attention to the reef part of your post. You are correct pygmy angels can have a tendency to nip corals, with the least likely to nip being the flame angel or the coral beauty.

Anthias is a good suggestion, just be aware that they need fed multiple times per day to stay healthy. This was why I had to pass on them in out big tank.

Can multiple goby/shrimp combos be kept in a tank? how would they interact with a blenny?
