Stocking up my 55 - Open to Suggestions!!

Clean up crew just got added. 4x hermits, 2 blue 2 red leg, then 4x snails, 2x zebra turbo 2x nacarius

Edit: pictures clearly show non Dsb. Therefore, must be using abbreviations for the tang. Lol

Ya, bed is only 2-3.5" in areas
Looked up a bit last night on fish, yaa don't think I can support a sailfin. Gets hugeeee
My tank is a 4" narrow (12"deep), but still.. Think I'll hold off

Of the four 'next fish considerations' I'd only consider the royal gramma. That's a great fish. Only tangs you should consider for a 55 are the bristletooth family of tangs like yellow eye kole, flame tomini, whitetail bristletooth. There are more. Sixline wrasses are thugs, I wouldn't recommend. Engineer goby can get 12"

Look into fairy/flasher wrasses, Blennies, Gobies, Cardinals, firefish. Pygmy angels are also good looking but can be nippers on corals. Everyone is different and no way of knowing. My best suggestion is go slow

Hey! I wouldn't recommend the engineer goby. I had a 45 gallon and really wanted an engineer goby so I bought a baby. It was fine for a while. The sand bed was deep enough for him as a juvenile but once he was about a foot long it wasn't working anymore. I could tell he wanted to expand his tunnels and there was no more space for him to dig. He started coming out and swimming around. I ended up giving him/her to a guy with a 300 gallon tank. Just judging by the pic of your tank I don't think you'd have enough sand for the baby one. You could get one for a bit and sell it when it's larger but I had to take all the rock out to get him. Just my two sense.

Diamond Watchman Goby - cool
Pygmy Angel - can get aggressive
Firefish- cool
Foxface - needs more space like a tang and mine ate coral. They're another hit and miss but the smaller the tank and the less grazing area the bigger the chance they get a taste for coral
Kole tang - cool
Carpenter wrasse - cool
Royal gramma- cool
Blue chromis - ok. They're schooling and in time might start picking themselves off
Chalk bass- no experience
Neon Goby- very tiny. Cool little fish. They clean parasites from other fish. I personally never had one live more then a few months but others have. If you go with this fish, buy ORA captive breds.
Harlequin bass- I'd pass
Seahorse- won't survive with these fish. Seahorses need a specific type of tank, not high flow. Can't keep them with some corals and most fish since they eat much slower and can't compete. If you want seahorses then change your direction and start studying. In either event keep doing your homework

Fish:Swissguard Basslet, Spotted Mandarin, Grammica Lined Dartfish, Wrasse(there is so many!), Randall Prawn or Diamond goby.
Corals:Golden torch with turquoise tips, elegance coral, frog spawn, hammers. Zoanthids are great for color.

I know each & every fish is going to be an important decision because it can limit the possibilities of the next fish, plus I can't overload the tank either way. I'm thinking another 4-7 from the list above will pretty much fully stock the tank, what are your thoughts? 4 if variety of sizes, 7 if tiny & "mated pairs"

No problem at all. I had a swissguard, spotted Mandarin, grammica, Prawn goby, clown, and yellow&purple wrasse in a 20g for a year. Just moved them into a 40B. Gave them more room to stretch. None were aggressive. The prawn was to a red saddleback anthies. Awesome looking fish, but once it got scared. He hid and never came out to eat. He starved to death. They need to eat all day pretty much. My friend had a diamond goby mated pair. Fun to watch. Just remember you need a fine sand bed for them to sift through. My Swissguard basslet is the best fish. Swimming around or hanging in the cave with the clown and prawn. Everyone was saying just remember he is a grouper. Honesty I have not seen a more model citizen/tankmate.
