Stolen Coral? at the Shop REWARD FOR INFO

Ron,

I just wanted to drop a line and tell you that it saddens me that people would take anything, much less from people like you and Barry that give so much information and help to all of us in this hobby. I do hope you find out who it is and are able to prosecute. If they are willing to take a live coral right out of the store, what will they take next?

As far as privatization, I think you all need to do what it takes to make the club run as smooth as possible for everyone that works it. I am not able to attend much (am hoping to this Sunday), so maybe I should not voice my opinion, but I feel you guys do a great job and I do not want to see anyone get ripped off.

Anyway, just my 0.02

Let me know if I can bring anything (pop, chips, cups, etc....) for the meeting on Sunday.

L'Louise

Sorry to hear of this Ron....I can't figure out how you could take something out of a tank and get it out of the shop and get it home without killing it in the process...so how the hell would anyone benefit from that??? As for the "tank crawl" topic...I don't think privitization is the answer....just because a person were to pay a anual "due" doesn't make them any less of a stranger....I'm sure whoever stole the coral to get this thread started has bought stuff from Jo-Mars before and that didn't stop them from stealing this time....that's just my two cents worth...

I am more impressed that someone stole not one, but two coral out of the shop... got out of the place with it, then got a fit of guilt & decided to return one of the corals the next day.... again not getting caught. Seems a bit outlandish to me.

Several years ago a Reef Central member went to Dr. Mac's to buy frags (he was still home based then) then returned and robbed him later that night. RC was a lot smaller back then and Mac figured the guy was safe because he was a member.
I've had several club members to my house and I've been to theirs but we all knew each other from RC and meetings.

Your right on both accounts.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the PPEs were returned within 24 hours after this post went up I believe the Anthelia is no longer in the possession of the one who took it and that is why I posted it here. It's hard to sell, trade off a rare coral because anyone wanting it knows there is a chance they have to explain lineage. Other than my own I know of only one other local that has this strain.

You know too much... AMY STOLE IT!

You caught me. Asking Ron for a frag was part of my master plan to establish it's linage too. :D

Unfortunately I've read about too many corals and fish walking out of LFS this way over the years.

I went to the prestigious Ohio University. Some amazing animal heists were perpetrated in the name of liberation. Kroger was relieved of about 15 lobsters and the tank plastered with "LOBSTER LIBERATION FRONT - BEING BOILED HURTS!" stickers. One of the local pet stores had all of their turtles (non-native red-eared sliders) and "returned" to the wild.

Sufficed to say, these things happen.

Adendum:

I was in no way involved with nor do I approve of those thefts. I think theft of any kind is awful, and when a place like Jo-Mars is hit, it's especially repugnant.

There are some crazy folks out there, though.

awww, those poor turtles were put out to their deaths, they are used to captivity and this is hybernation time!!! OMG, poor little things.

I did not say anything about a tank crawl in my response. I am just for privatization of the club. Because it would generate funds for the club to buy things we need and I also believe we could start auctions up again if we privatized. It seems "everyone" in the club always wants the club to do this or that, for example test the output of different lights or drill a tank, or have a backup generator on hand but not many will donate money to the club to buy the tools needed for these things. If we privatized and charged a $5.00 entry for each meeting we could start buying such items and all club members could use them, just a thought.

I agree with privatizing so we can have auctions again. But the $5.00 each to get in is to high for alot of people, I would rather see a reasonalble annual dues, with free entry to meetings and perhaps a $5.00 fee per meeting for non-members.

I think this is a great idea. But if it is a large annual due then that may be harder for some to come up with also. I think $5.00 per meeting is a very small fee compared to many other clubs. If you make it $3.00 that would also be fine but it would take a long time to buy items that member would need, ie: a generator, lux meter, etc.....

What amount of 'large' annual fee? Because, if you charge $5.00 for nonmembers and you hold approx 6 meetings a year.............
