ABC Television (Australian) recently did a piece on stomatopod vision interviewing Prof. Justin Marshall of the University of Queensland. Justin, along with Prof. Tom Cronin and I, have been studied stomatopod vision for years. Here is a link to the broadcast.

I'm a bit annoyed that they used several of my video clips (for which I gave my permission) without crediting them, but at least their is a URL listed at the end of the supplementary information.

My heart jumped when I saw "stomatopod" and "space" together. Could it be? I asked myself. Could my beloved mantis shrimp really rival the mighty tardigrade in surviving in space? Or maybe a specimen was taken up in a shuttle? Alas, no. But anytime one of my favorite animals is connected with space it is a momment to rejoice. Very interesting article. Citation needed* but do you know what this means if they start using that vision for telescopes? Maybe we could see into the future!
