Stores on Bird Road

Should have posted this here as a new thread instead of a comment elsewhere since its off topic in its current area.

Ive also been to a bunch of other stores on Bird road. Strictly, Amazing, and Exotic all suck as saltwater stores. Heres why I dont go to them, from my experiences.

Strictly Fish- They sold me live rock that was suposedly cured, and the very next day my whole tank was infested with worms of every type found in the ocean! Including a 12 inch long Bristel worm. There water quality is low, but there prices are high, and there customer service could use some some improvement. They also dont have a very good selection of corals.

Amazing Aquariums- This store is just on the other side of the fence from Strictly. There competitors to eachother and as a result have the same high prices. There water quality is slightly better, but they have a fewer selection of fish and coral cosidering the other half of the store deals with freshwater. I went there one day and saw a 2 ft. long dead Nurse Shark in the back tank with a stressed out slightly smaller horned shark. I came by 3 days later to find the same dead shark was still in the tank. I was told the small horned shark was sold.

Exotic Aquariums- This store is just across the street from Reef. There water quality is the poorest Ive seen of all. It was like a light gray color, last time I was there, and each tank had at least one dead fish in it. There prices are a little better than Strictly and Amazing. There worst problem isnt even bad water quality though...Its Extremley bad Customer Service. I waited there for a full 20 min. before someone attended to me and they had 5 people running the store. One of which was just flirting away with some chick all day. I also asked if they knew where Reef Aquariums was before when he had moved to that location just across the street. They said he was no longer in buisness. A store that would lie to me is something not to be trusted.

So whats the point of this thread? Alot of people have "there" LFS to go to. From my own experience its best to not talk about other LFS's because you might hit a soft spot in someones LFS and it wont be pretty. It also isn't fair to the LFS's if they can't defend there store. Just my .02 ;)

I would suggest a thread on polling whose their best pick as opposed to bashing stores. I can go on all day on stores in south florida but f-it. They are a business and if you don't like the selection simply walk out the store. It would be more beneficial to hear who has the best fish/coral selection, customer service, and imo the most important doesn't lie to make a sale but helps that enthusiast build an ideal tank with the right inhabitants to keep that person as a long term customer.

If I could find a store where the folks didn't simply want to make a sale but rather sell me whats suitable for my tank and has a healthy selection I would pay 20% over the average price for that peace of mind.

I have only been in this hobby for about 1 year and leanred the hard way of listening to a lfs and added 6 fish to my 46 gallon tank in less than 3 weeks with one being a blue hippo. WOW was I dumb and more so ****ed off at the place I bought it from expecting them to be stand up guys and would have guided me the right way and instead I lost 300 dollars in fish . THAT SUCKED!

So I turned to the net and bam I have a very healthy 46 reef with only 3 fish and has been doing great for 9 months now. Don't mean to ramble on but again a post on great LFS's is alot better than a thread on bashing others. Let the consumer know who is good and if a person asks about a particular store than I would say send a pm with your personal opinion.

Thanks,

Nick

Your saying those stores have some problems and are not perfect? I'm shocked! No one has ever mentioned that before! And I don't care, I'll still go to them all.

I am thrilled that FOUR reef stores exist within 20 blocks of each other near my office. As for Exotic, the young kids that work there have been nothing but helpful and extremely outgoing every time I go in. The owner worked with me on a special order and trade. What I have bought there lived. So yeah, I'm pretty satisfied with one of the largest reef shops in Dade county. As for the others, yes they are small and selection is limited, but they have been reasonably helpful when I visited as well.

God I hope this guy isn't another sock-puppet for a compteting lfs like in the Reef Life thread.

I do busiiness with aquariumart on bird road and yesterday picked some acros there /great stuff. Anyways u r pretending to follow advice from someone that needs to make a quota to take care of his or her family. Just educate yourself prior to getting anything that way no matter where u buy u get wat u want and there's only one person to blame YOURSELF IMO
