Storm is making me nervous...

We're having serious power flickers here. Completely coated in heavy ice outside. I have a generator, but still don't want to deal with that. Hope everyone else is hanging in there tonight.

just ice still coming down. waiting for the snow.

I'm praying for the snow to start. The density of snow would be great compared to ice. Ice is really heavy and sticks to the power lines a lot better than snow.

I'm with Shooter on this one, lost power 4 times in 20 minutes.

I'm sitting here trying to figure what wires I have to hook everybody up here. I have 3 tanks going right now with my 120g display, 10g nano, and 29g QT that has two fish in it. News is saying that 56,000 without power right now.

....and then my family gets whatever power is left over from the generator. ;)

Was just going out onto my back patio to grab some firewood to bring in, when over towards Collinsville direction from me there was a HUGE greenish white explosion flash. There are some woods not far from my house and when you stand outside you can hear the loud popping and cracking of branches breaking and falling to the ground.

Ya, Dave Murray keeps talking about tons of ice on the power lines + heavy winds. 70,000 people without power so far.

It's getting scaary. The lights have flickered every few minutes for the past hour. I just went downstairs and put styrofoam on top of all my tanks. More worried about heat than anything else. The weather site says the temperatures will get to single digits tonight and tomorrow. This is my worst fishy fear!

Most of Florissant is without power. Looks like 4th of July with all the green flashes in the sky. My neighbors car is smashed by a tree. I have lost several large branches out of a few 50 ft Pines in my side yard.

I filled the generator gas tank completely up and went out to fill all the gas cans back up. More then anything, I wanted to see how far out the blackout was. I drove about 5 miles before I found any area with power.

I have the tanks running on the generator now.

Guess it is a wait and see game now.

Would have taken 15 inches of snow over all this ice.

Good luck everyone. I had a lot of flickering and heard a transformer explode. I only lost power for a couple of seconds so I've been lucky thus far.

I've got my fingers crossed for the power to stay on...we've got 14" of snow right now and can expect another 4" :eek1:

I live in Glendale (Kirkwood). My power went out last night at 9, came back on at 11 for a 1/2 hour, then went out again. My tanks are running on battery operated air pumps, but I know I've lost at least one Sally Lightfoot. I'm just praying my 3 giganteas and my crispa survive. . . :(

Still OK in U City. Surprising considering all the trees here, loaded with ice now. Strong winds are coming, so there still is a danger the power will stop.

Sorry to hear about Florissant, John. I am glad you are more pro-active than I am.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys down there. I am in Spfld. IL. where the party is just getting started. I don't think we are gonna get it as bad as you all are ubt it's getting pretty nasty outside. Good Luck St Louis gang

Same here to my northern neighbors. :)

We seem to be hanging in there with the power situation, although we're still getting considerable flickering. My stepson and I were up til the wee hours of the morning seeing some of those green flashes too. Entire front of my house (north side) is encased in ice, and my beautiful big Japanese maple on the corner of my front landscaping is split down the middle. I know it's not the same as having your car crushed by a tree, but still sucks. I had to go out through my front door and bang on my garage door to break up the ice on it so I could open it. Didn't get a lot of snow, but the ice is bad. I'm praying that our power holds, but I've still got all my wires and everything ready to go if I have to go to generator power.

Remember power inverters -- wal mart, target, and all the tool stores have them. If you have a way of running your car safely with an inverter hooked to the battery (or through the lighter outlet for small loads), you can at least run your skimmer and provide heat. A full tank of gas will run a very long time. It's saved my corals and the rest of the tank many times including this storm.

I didn't realize how close it was for me. I just went out to my garage a little earlier and heard the sound of a generator running. Looked out the garage door and just a house down and across the street, a big chunk of my neighborhood is all dark. Literally only 50 yards away from me. Ours still flickers now and then. We lost charter cable for about 3 or 4 hours this afternoon.
