Storms in the area

Well, so far I have been lucky (knock on wood). I only lost 7 shingles off my shop. I have 9 pine trees I painted targets on, but the storms will not take them. :uzi:

Did you guys get any damage or have a long power outage?

My power went out for over 4 hours the other day, but my Vortech MP10 with DIY battery backup ran the entire time. I had my heater on an APC 1000 which maintained temp for a while then gave up power. My temp went from 78 to 75 at the end of the outage which isn't bad.

I don't own a generator, but it would be a great thing to have to ensure reef survivability.

Take care,

I have a chain saw if you want me to come over when I get laid off in Oct.

No damage here. Power went off Monday night 11:00 pm and I did not get it back till Tuesday 6:30 pm. Luckily the Ice cap battery back up kept the Vortech MP40w running for about 15 hours and the temp only dropped 2 degrees. No lost livestock or corals.

I would love for them to get cut down. They are far enough away from my house, but they are next to several houses. If they do not fall right, then the neighbors get a free skylight. The person cutting would need insurance just in case, but I appreciate the offer.

That is what I love about the Vortechs. Since they are DC, power isn't lost due to conversion which = a very long run time on battery. I'll have to test mine to see how long the battery will run it.

We lost power during our first storm and lost a 60-70 yr old tree, tore down mailbox. We were without power for 3 days, but all in all everyone is ok.:eek2:

We were out of power for 2 days .Lost a few corals . An a few trees But everything else was ok. I think I need a battery backup !!!

The power went off in middle of the night, so by the time I was able to get battery operated pumps turned on, we lost a Sail Fin, coral banded shrimp, 2 cleaner shrimp, and about 6 peppermints.:(

I lost staghorn and plate coral. My candy cane lost about 4 heads, but it. appears that two or three may recover. And of course all my xenia melted .I will be ready next time !!!!Everyone have a great week .NO RAIN ...OR STORMS !!!

Sorry to hear about the losses guys. You can always setup an automatic battery backup to keep you going short term (ie: while you are asleep or at work). That will buy you time until you can get a generator going.

If you have the money, the automatic transfer switch and natural gas Generac generator is an awesome setup. I know that one reef keeper in Memphis and Tim Greene in Jonesboro, AR has this nice setup. They can go gone on vacation and nothing skips a beat in the event of total power failure.
