Strange creature from the deep

I found this in my tank tonight, never seen it before:

The texture on the top resembles that of a starfish. It moves very slowly. In fact, it has not moved at all in the last 2 hours (verified by comparing current position to that of pictures). Anyone ever seen something like this?

It does look like a regenerating star.

It is indeed a starfish- a very lucky one by the looks of it. One large/old arm with a tiny body and stubby new arms growing off of it. Looks like a Fromia or Linkia type.
