strange mounds in sand

hi
i have a tank thaT about 2 weeks little mounds of sand started to develop they look like mini ant hills
does anyone know what creature(s) is causing this?

It is either bubbles generated by the nitrification process comming out of the sand or you have some nice worms digging in there.

well the mounds are no larger around than a nickel or dime

there is also a worm that lives in the sand, it siphons sand from one end and spews out out the other eating bacteria and stuff liek that on the sand. It will create an anthill look alike on one side and a depression on another. The worms can grow up to 6 inches and from what I know all they do is live and the sand and clean it. You might want to try and dig underneath and around the mound see if you find anything.
