Strange Peacock color pattern

I recently found this Odontodactylus scyllarus with a color pattern anomaly. It looks like the genes that control the carapace spot pattern were also turned on in the 7th thoracic segment. Typically this segment should have the same color and pattern as the 6th and 8th thoracic segments. If you find a peacock with this or other pattern anomallies, I would appreciate seeing a picture of them

I just got mine today and I'm still acclimating it, but it appears the 7th has a few spots, and the 8th has a couple as well. Not sure if this means anything to you, but just wanted to give you a heads up. It's not nearly as prominent as yours specimen's though

I've been looking at some of my photographs of O.s and this variation seems more common than I had ever noticed. Amazing what you can miss.

It seems that the one that caught your eye had more predominate markings all the way around the segment. I've seen a few that just have a couple spots such as mine.

Well, now that I have looked at all of the animals in the lab, I feel kind of silly for not realizing just how much variation there is in spot pattern. I had always noted it on the carapace with many animals having no spots on the posterior carapace, but I had missed it on the thoracic tergites. I feel a research project coming on.
